He awoke, disoriented, and confused this wasn't his bed, he thought as he started looking around. The fog billowed towards him engulfing him like an enormous beast.
" Who goes there, I am your father " Alex yelled before bursting out laughing, well this is spooky as shit, the fog absorbed the sound as if nothing had ever been said. Walking forwards into the fog Alex tried to remember what happened before he woke up here.
The last thing he recalled was walking down the street, it had just been a hard day at university, long hours spent work on some complicated piece of quantum mechanics. The streets were dark and gloomy, the cold winter breeze cut against your cheek, Alex was glad he wrapped up warm for tonight was a cold one.
The lonely figure walked along the dark street, the tall building either side framing the picture of a solitary man struggling against the cold black night.
Alex had decided it was finally time to go home after a particularly intense day of studying and satisfy his guilty pleasure, reading eastern fantasy fiction. His favourite was Martial World, Lin Ming began as the weak boy and through fate and his own iron will become the strongest in his universe, even travelling to another and inadvertently helping create the strongest cultivator in that universe.
He never understood author's the obsession with swords, nearly every novel he had read had a sword wielding protagonist. The sword is so over done he thought, why not a different weapon there are so many to choose from. Plus, while the sword is the weapon of the king, the spear is the emperor of weapons, ruler of the battlefield why not wield a spear instead.
While daydreaming about brandishing a spear and fighting his way across the three realms, he saw a woman running screaming.
The black eyeliner she had been wearing was running down her face, arm flailing in the air, she look like she was running for her life.
Worried he asked " What's wrong "
" They, they tried " she stammered in between breaths, the fear in her eyes said what she couldn't.
Someone had attack her, desperate to get away, she had screamed and ran off.
She didn't stop for Alex though, disappearing into the dark night. Alex walked forward into the streets, peering forward hoping to see a glimpse of man that had frightened the women so, but the flickering streetlamp gave little to no light. Torn between wanting to find the person responsible and hoping he wouldn't be there Alex stood frozen incapable of deciding, but his decision was made for him.
Out of the mist a shadowy figure started to emerge, as he got close Alex realise there were odd peculiarities about the figure. For one, it was too tall towering over him, easily double or even triple his height and its gait was wrong almost as if it was walking on four feet. As the figure came out of the mist, the first thing alex noticed was the teeth, teeth so large they were unable to fit inside the creature's mouth, and creature it was as no animal on earth resembled the beast. The closest comparison was a gorilla, but no gorilla was this big or had teeth so ferocious and those blood red eyes that spoke of violence and death.
Alex now understood the women inability to speak, the aura of this beast was enough to make a grown man run screaming in terror. Just as Alex turned to run, the beast leap forwards barrelling toward far fast than any cheetah. Bang, it collided with Alex smashing him backward, flying through the air until a sickening thud was heard. Alex had slammed into the wall with enough force to destroy his spine. Sliding to the floor, ribs shattered stabbing into his lungs, even the darkness of the night couldn't hide the wet gleam of blood on the wall. As the beast walked forward towards its victim, Alex saw his life flash before his eyes, the loving childhood, the endless support of his parents, his first love, her cruel manipulative ways painted in a rosy hue in this final moments. His current girlfriend, her beautiful smile and kindness she had always shown. No, I will not die, not here Alex thought as he tried to move, unfortunately his injuries meant that any attempt of escape was impossible. The last sight of our protagonist was the beast's large mouth closing in on him, then it faded to black.
