Synopsis

Chapter 1 - CHAPTER ONE

Humidity had taken care of rusting the railings and gates of the ancient but most imposing house in Vadenberg, a small peasant village near the Bavarian Alps.

Bushes and weeds have crept up on them and the years have made the house and its legends almost forgotten.

The best known of these dated back to 1880, when Guadalupe Della Vega arrived with his family.

She was a tall, slender girl, with sweetly dark skin and long black hair. Big brown eyes and a full mouth that seemed to crave kisses stood out in her oval face.

He dressed well, denoting a good financial situation.

His parents, Escobar and Concépcion Della Vega were a plump couple, with wide smiles on their round, flushed faces.

At that time everyone could still have access to the mountain house. But why do Spaniards come so far to Vadenberg?

The reason people didn't know was based on facts...

Founded by Pope Gregory IX, the Court of the Holy Office of the Inquisition sent to the fire thousands of people who were considered heretics (practitioners of heresies; doctrines or practices contrary to what is defined by the Catholic Church) for practicing acts considered witchcraft, heresy or simply for being practitioners of a religion other than Catholicism.

The worst period of the Inquisition was during the so-called Spanish Inquisition (15th to 19th century). Of a political nature, some historians claimed that the Spanish Inquisition was a way that Fernando de Aragon found to persecute his opponents, achieve total power over the kingdoms of Castile and Aragon (Spain) and even expel Jews and Muslims.

And one night, dozens of knights carrying flaming torches arrived at the house. To the cries of "Death to the witch!" entered, dragging Guadalupe and her parents from inside the house.

Then, right there in the garden, they erected three stakes, where the three were tied. Without prior judgment, they were burned alive.

The screams mingled with the smell of burning flesh... And gradually they grew weaker, until the silence of the night reigned.

In the morning, Vadenberg's bravest men went to see what was left of the family. They knew they would not be able to contact any relatives.

After digging a shallow grave, what was left of the Della Vega family was thrown into it.

The heavy gates were closed, the curse stories spread, and the mountain house was forgotten by time.
