Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

To the principal's surprise, more than half of the school showed up at the drab Caribbean-themed dance and it seemed more like a beauty contest than a dance.

Scarlett wore a casual black cardigan, a red vest with the collar out, and black tights and shoes, she took their prom photo and formal one on a different background.

She gazed at Lindsay who was tall and had an awkward stance and a grimace for a smile, she gestured for her to let herself go but it got worse as she had to hunker down for the camera to get a better view.

Shaking her head, she changed films and called the next couple, she squinted at George on a white dress shirt, tweeds and sneakers.

"Smile"

She was fidgety at the long line but wanted to catch up with George and why he was single. She hopped on her toes and groaned when the principal stuck her two fingers on her eyes and continued socializing with the chaperones. Her smile grew even bigger to the point there was a strain on her jaw at Jean in a casual pink shirt with an integrated hood and white strings with grey sleeves and jeans and sneakers.

Jean took the formal picture and she stepped back when Scarlett shoved her aside to continue. She appreciated the company and things were moving fast as Jean assisted her, she reckoned it got into her system from watching her use a camera most of the day watching over the films. She declined to do-overs and requests to edit their photos to look better, some makeups just couldn't hide terrible acne and pasty necks or no necks for that matter.

"Why aren't you and George together? and why are you dressed like you're going for a hike"

Jean glanced at George at the end, he was talking to a few of his friends and bandmates

then the drum major, feigned a smile trying not to put too much attention to that.

"I'm changing course this year"

"Why it's our final year, pictures speak louder than words...hunker down Jordan, this is a camera, not a telescope!"

The standing guard at the school's basketball team put out his hand with a what the hell expression and left the background.

"That's it, keep walking Gulliver...wow," She said to Jean and adjusted her cap and fanned herself at the crowd coming.

"That'll take forever and you...need...to go" She pushed Jean over to the dance floor where most people were hollering like it was a backstreet night club and she sighed walking around the group dancing, she saw a girl from the volleyball team in a sea blue outfit and she blocked Jean with pleading eyes.

"Please, take my dress, I need to get out of these, my teammates are leaving and I don't want to look like I stepped into the wrong timeline"

"I can't, sorry"

"I'll give you fifty dollars to rent your clothes"

She stepped out of the restroom in the dress with pleats on one side and a bow tie illusion, her heels were too thin and she wobbled and winced at Cora sporting her clothes and the pants were riding above her ankles and she gave a thumbs up.

"I'll call you," She said and hurried past the crowd to join her friends in a Nissan car

Quietly, she slipped through the crowd and gathered her skirt, struggling with the heels. She stepped back and bumped into someone and turned to George smiling, what a pleasant night to run into him, he took a deep breath and sighed holding out a hand, she took his hand and they promenaded around the floor, her foot slipped on the shoe and she stepped on his foot by accident holding on tight.

George cringed straightening her up and curled his foot at the pain,

"Sorry, wrong shoe size"

"Oh, I know how small your feet are" He teased and she laughed at his antics.

"Is that supposed to be a compliment?"

"Maybe" He shook his head and his blonde hair bobbed graciously and ruffled, Jean, chuckled while the others queued to join in on the choreography and she declined when he urged her to follow, he smiled and she noticed he had a more youthful look.

"It'll be fun, same old one last year"

"Oh" She smiled and they followed the tempo till their steps matched and shuffled around with different partners, she giggled when they reunited and held hands whirling around with their hands latched.

"I remember last year when you ate too many tacos and you threw up on my corsage"

"Yeah, no need to rub it in lol" She grimaced and he cleared his throat swaying.

"Sorry, I've been texting a lot, the band's been on our formation all week"

"That's good, I thought you were a good drummer"

His eyes held a radiance that lasted, he looked flattered "Really?"

"Yes, very good." She mumbled and closed her eyes when George's lips grazed her forehead to the dismay of Dylan, he thought he might show up as she wasn't looking forward to dancing the night away.

The chaperone put out a ruler with a suspicious look on her face, during his time he used to be the most singled out student in the school, he called the shots and the others had no choice but to answer.

"You don't go here anymore Bradshaw, get going"

"But I_"

"Don't be silly" Her eyes crinkled and he stepped back Into the porch when she pushed him with the ruler aside from others where others queued to walk in.

Jean walked outside with mixed feelings while George hurried after her, he cursed, he may have sent the wrong message and didn't mean to take her off guard like that. Jean ran into Dylan and her heart thumped in her chest and she took the air in a gasp.

Jean darted at him with uncertain eyes but looked away from him asking Dylan to take her home quietly.

Dylan nodded taking her hand and George's eyes lowered.

George stood back on the steps watching the both of them.

Korra took her by surprise giggling and taking her other hand.

"Come on Jean, I came here as fast as I could, let's go"

"Huh?" She asked in a reverie and Korra tugged her away from Dylan and lowered her voice.

"Our clothes silly"

George shoved his hands in his pockets watching them walkout, he glimmered when Dylan left with his arm on Jean's shoulders in her hoodie, Dylan's head swiveled back to him and turned while they disappeared into the night.

He slowly turned when Scarlett joined him and was saddened. "So you two split huh?"

He shrugged "I'm sorry I had to be the one to tell you" He said bitterly walking down the lane, Scarlett sighed going back inside.
