the girl puffed her chest in pride as she caressed the big scales near the temple of the titan lizard as if it was just a pet.
'Pet!' the dragon almost had a heart attack. It looked at the girl as the insult echoed in its head. 'Pet?'
She smiled at the sprawling giant making it's rising killing intent vanish. Her rainbow eyes flickering and enchanting the dragon that despite knowing it was being bewitched wondered what the heck was going on.
"No, young lady, you are not getting a dragon for a pet!"
"But Aunt Aba said..."
"No pets, young lady. No! you've disturbed this young dragon's sleep long enough let's go home."
The little princess sulked making the room grow a little colder and windier. But because of the little girl in front of her, the dragon just felt like it was basking in the sun and didn't mind the chill. But it felt itself grow sad and almost like it could bawl. The same emotion it could read in the small sun in front of her.
The man waved his hand and the cold and wind died. Making the room return to its warmth.
"No!" The girl slurred her words as she turned and hugged the dragon. The dragon felt both both warm loved and calm as the girl hugged her. Her sleep completely erased from her skin. Her hunger also went with the wind. "I'm gonna keep her."
"And what are you gonna feed her?"
"I'll share my food with it."
"it eats meat."
"cows?"
"And hurt them? how many cows are you going to hurt for you big pet?"
The girl left the dragon and looked down. almost weighing her options as she twirled her feet on the ground trying not to remember the last time a deer felt like when it was bitten by a predator that wanted to eat it. She did save it but the sphynx's hunger did reach it that made her feel horrible that she had to call her father to help her feed the sphynx.
"No." she shook her head and looked down.
The dragon slowly got up and looked at the two things that looked like humans but didn't feel like humans. The father slowly comforted the child and promised her to find a smaller pet that she could feed without hurting anything.
"A fluffy one?" she asked as her face brightened and her eyes grew even bigger and cuter than any hatchling.
"Mm, a fluffy one."
"A cute one with bushy tails right?"
"yes, a cute one with a bushy tail." Gammad kept on being led by his daughter as he imagined what his daughter was thinking of. A squirrel popped up in his head. It was the most logical h e could think.
It didn't eat meat. It was by far the least dangerous he could think of. True they would keep her daugther busy but they were better than a dragon. Then his head fell on other options. He turned pale as he realized that he had just shot himself on the foot.
"A midnight hound?" The girl asked in excitement that made the dragon almost swear the girl was a phoenix as her aura lit ablaze the only way a phoenix could. A bright white flame that didn't burn anything nor raise the temperature, just made everything around her bloom and the dragon feel as warm as if it was a summer solistice.
But despite that, a shiver went down the dragon's spine as she heard the name that almost haunted her and made her stop eating any wolf like animal. Or any man that smelt like a wolf. A nightmare she still prefared facing a lot of Garudas over and for her kind, garudas were way more than just a dragons perfect predator but garudas hunted dragons for fun.
Looking at some Gods, she could see that they descended from the garuda bloodline with their wings or whatnot. Or at least like her mother used to say.
"No, midnights are no pets."
"But Aunt Aba said midnights are the fluffiest and cutest animals out..."
"Forget what Ava said, midnights and werewolves are not pets." the girl sulked even more as the Gammad explained why. "they can be pets for her but not for you."
"Why? aren't I a guardian like she is?"
"No, Ava isnt just a guardian, she is the eldest of the guardians and the strongest being in the planet at the moment."
"But aren't you the strongest?"
"No, I am not."
"But you're a saint."
"Yes, but she is a goddess. I ask her and the planet for power and guidance."
"No, I want a midnight or a phoenix."
For almost two minutes, the dragon stared at the two beings in front of her bargain with each other like only a daughter can with her father.
Her emotions always swayed not by her own making but by the girl's mood, and with every moment the girl grew angry, she felt the fear that made every shadow in the room appear like the wraths of the gods she ran from. She sweated bullets and seeked cover in her own pile of molten riches.
For the first time in its millenia long life, nothing made sense to its existence. it was supposed to be anry at being called a pet. But it wasnt. No matter how crazy one was, turning a back on a dragon in winter was supposed to be the last mistake of that peorson.
Talking loudly in front of a hungry dragon, and inside its lair at that was always the last thing the person did, if not counting comming with a platter and sauces to marinate oneself and lying on the platter.
It was suicide. Like a woman once did to it whilst it was barely a century old. But thats a story for another day.
But now, she was being ignored, yet instead of doing what she did best, and what she had done to both demi gods and humans, she was trembling like sheep.
Suddenly she remembered why all the lesser dragons here asked her how a human tasted like. or what a man was.
Or a giant.
She explained the dangerous delicacy a man was and their once in a while buffet they sometimes called a monster hunt.
"You mean death?" She remembered a drake almost shouting as she told him how stupid a human wastrying to skin her alife to make weapons.
"What do you mean death?" she had asked.
"Those things that walk on two legs, have no tail and change their skins almost everyday? and they also drink a lot around fire?"
That was a human alright.
"Those are death walking."
"what do you mean they are death?" she asked flabbergasted. Even a drake could wipe out an entire city in one sunday if it wanted without even getting a scar. Seven if there were no demigods.
"They taste way better than any other animal. especially after you slowly burn them to death."
"Dont do that here unless you want the entire dragon races to be wiped. phoenixes are extinct for a reason." The drake spit at her feet before taking off.
That, for the dragon race was the closest thing to say she was the greatest disgrace ever, coming form a lesser dragon was like a mentally disturbed person saying you speak even more crazy stuff than him yet he is the crazy one.
The drake vanished like he was running away from something.
"My lady, please forgive the childishness of my hatchling, she likes playing with other beings without any regard for their personal time and space."
The saint bowed in apology as his eyes moved from the eyes of a loving father to those of a leader and then those of a cold blooded killer. She stepped back as she got the silent threat but his eyes became warm again.
"I've been a hatch..." She stopped as she realized she was speaking in draconian tongue. not the language of men.
"Thank you." He said before they both vanished.she looked around the cave, wondering where the being went.
Or rather who the beings were.
Thinking that maybe the cold making her hallucinate, she breathed a few infernos around her to warm the cave and bathed in molten gold and silver.
But the warmth didn't erase the feeling of having stared at the death in the eyes. Even changed phone numbers with it after hugging it out.
