Sorensen continued "the ability to wield the soul comes naturally to many, to those with the power to invoke they are given the gift of invincibility and they have no need to use it. but to those like you who are born with a dark cloud over your head, you come with a different talent,
"so...i can't become an Invoker?" Vanitas asked, his voice laced with confusion
"not quite" Sorensen answered "there are some people whose powers awaken without their consent or knowledge and then when they are forced to fight, sometimes they cannot hold back what they have begun to unleash. such individuals are usually called Dark Lords, they live lives of terror and pain. They call the shadows of despair and bring it all upon themselves. They are always alone but they make sure they never reveal their true nature. You are one such person"
Vanitas frowned, his head reeling a bit from the information he had received and the way Sorensen explained it. "So what exactly does this...gift, that you speak of, have to do with anything?" he questioned.
Sorensen gave a small sigh and tilted her head slightly "you will discover in time"
Vanitas frowned, Sorensen's statement sent his thoughts racing, he wasn't completely comfortable with this whole thing. he wasn't alone He had seen and what did she mean by "you will discover in time?" shaking his head Vanitas looked at her again "uhmm..who...who will tell me more about this gift..?"
she smiled faintly, gently rising from her chair and walking toward him. She stood close enough to Vanitas that he could see flecks of gold in her beautiful emerald-colored eyes, she stood taller than him by an entire head. She placed a soft delicate hand on the side of his cheek "you will figure it out on your own" she stated softly as she smiled. Then with a blink of her eyes, Vanitas woke up.
He gasped loudly for air, his heart pounding in his chest and sweat dripping down his face. He sat bolt upright panting he was back in the room with the other pillars but the Sorensen was gone.
he looked around for a bit and found nothing.
" Oh gods! oh Gods! what happened? What did I dream about?!" he panicked, his hands began shaking as he clutched his head "where is she?" he whispered to himself. "What did she mean? How can i learn this gift...why can't everyone learn it? after Panicking for a while he continued to look to me
behind the stage that the orb was on, there was another corridor. assuming that it was the way out Vanitas made his way through it and entered a hallway. Vanitas continued to walk as he glanced left and right, he couldn't see anything, he kept looking, he couldn't shake the feeling that he was being watched and every so often he would hear the faint sound of footsteps echoing off the walls. "Ugh...ugh...." he groaned as he walked and he rubbed his eyes. Suddenly the sound stopped, Vanitas whipped around and looked behind him, there was nothing but empty hallways. he turned back around and resumed walking, soon the sounds were back, again he whipped around and scanned around for any sign of movement, he found none. "Ughhhhh....." Vanitas sighed, his breathing ragged and heavy. "Oh gods" he mumbled to himself. He took a couple steps forward trying to find a direction and once again heard something echo off the walls. He froze and held onto his ear. "was that...was that laughter...or was i imagining things?" He whispered to himself.
He continued walking until he came across another corridor, this one was wider and longer. Looking both ways he saw no signs of life. he continued, this corridor was longer than the others. It stretched into infinity, Vanitas felt his breath quicken. Vanitas looked around again, but it was all dark, no doors nor windows in sight. Vanitas turned and looked around the other side and once again saw only darkness. He gulped nervously
"I must be going mad...." he whispered to himself. As he continued walking he heard a faint sound coming from behind him, the same laughter, he spun around and looked behind him. No one was there. "Maybe...maybe i am crazy" he muttered stepping forward cautiously, the laugh became louder and stronger, and Vanitas started feeling uneasy. As he stepped forward he turned back and the laughter died out leaving the hallway void of sound once more. Vanitas gulped, he couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching him. But he had no idea who they were, nor how to confront them. With a sigh he shook his head and turned back around to continue moving, he walked silently down the narrow corridor until suddenly he heard the unmistakable sound of metal scraping against stone. breaking into a run Vanitas started down the seemingly endless corridor.
He turned his head this way and that frantically looking at each corner hoping that one of them would open up, that they'd give him some sort of clue as to where he was going and if he was making any sense. but there was nothing, there was no one anywhere he could see. Just more darkness, more silence. And the laughter which he had been hearing from somewhere behind him, echoing off the walls around him, growing ever louder. As he ran he turned again and again to look into every shadow of every corner of the place. He was terrified, scared, he couldn't stop sweating and shaking. He was exhausted, he just wanted to get away from all this darkness. From all this pain. The fear he was experiencing was overwhelming him, and he felt utterly lost. His mind began to wander, and his body followed, he didn't know why. Why was he running, why was this darkness so terrifying, why did he feel as though everything was falling apart all around him? And the last thing he remembered before blacking out was the sound of laughter.
