Chapter 52 - The dark curtain

The atmosphere in the alley quickly turned heavy, a fight between the youngster and the guards was about to commence.

"You still had the chance to turn back, child."

"No, I didn't." Vaterian denied the words delivered by the guardsmen. He held firm in a key stance, keeping his sword close to his chest and pointing toward his opponent.

He could feel the leather handle of the sword rubbing on his injuries, forcing him to remember the disastrous performance.

"Don't want to step down even with those heavy injuries?" Asked the guards.

"Sorry, but I couldn't abundant the last thing I could do."

"What..."

Before the man could even finish his sentence, Vaterian's sword turned into a silver trail quickly strike to his shoulder. As an immediate reaction, the man raised his buckler and blocked the attack but only a light touch was felt by him, it was a faint attack.

After fooling the man to raise his buckler, Vaterian changed his feet stance, flipped his hand and sent the blade in another direction, stopping the incoming rapier that threatened his arm.

The man was surprised by the brutal force this kid had, his rapier being knocked away, causing a huge emptiness at every angle.

Vaterian saw the chance and reversed the moving pattern he did previously, the sharp edge of the sword fell almost 90° on the man's head, but surprisingly he was still alive.

A part of his hat fell on the ground, the cold blade ran through a side of his hat and sliced it apart from the rest, the kid spared his life, at least for now.

"Warm-up is over, Mister. Are you ready for the true fight? Just remember not to blink, you might miss the moment you die." Vaterian whispered to the man and quickly kicked him away.

The rest of the guards around them was stunned by the quick finish of the fight, they were not employed to face such a strong opponent.

Soon the fallen man climbed up, he was furious about Vaterian's surprise attack. "You little buggers!"

The man stepped forward with his weapons, stretched out his arm, and thrust his sword toward the teenager with his buckler in his other hand, guarding him against any possible advance.

"Impressive basic skill, but it was just basic after all." It was unclear whether was Vaterian compromising the man or laughing at him, but he was definitely prepared for the thrust.

Vaterian raised his sword and made a quick cut from the top, baiting the man using his buckler. As was he thought, the man didn't make the same mistake, he turned his waist and shifted his direction for the thrust while blocking the incoming attack at the same time.

Vaterian saw the action the man did, without any thought, Vaterian turned his faint attack into a pressuring on the buckler, giving the man full force while dodging the rapier easily with a side step.

Followed by all these movements was a simple trip on the man's leg, resulting in the man losing his balance and falling down.

"So the rest of you just want to stand there and stared at me? One, two, three men…but I saw only two balls in those sacks." Vaterian sneered at the two guardsmen still standing, who did provide any support to their college.

"Pardon me…, It's my time to leave!!!" The first coward appeared, one of the guards was terrified and quickly run away from the scene, but a huge pain drenching into bone forced him to fall on the muddy ground.

"I asked do you guys have those sacks! Not asking you to leave!"

Shouted Vaterian, the dagger that hanging on his waist was gone, he leave it on the coward's leg.

The rest of the guards who still could move, quickly advance on Vaterian in a different direction, Vaterian felt the adrenaline start to pump into his vein.

"That's my good boy." He spoke silently and grinned.

The rain continue to fall upon the City in the dark night, the only light brought by the thunder revealed the torturous scene in the alley, the three guardsmen were forced to keep repeating the process of falling down and climbing up.

The sound was covered by the rain dropping from the sky, no bloodshed as Vaterian said, all was washed away.
