Chapter 49 - Under the red light

The light from the lamp pole beside the road lit up the night at the Sirens bay, presented just as the sole star at the night.

Vaterian was walking in the middle of the road, the smell of the perfume in the air made him uncomfortable. However, he needs to pick up or at least pay for his friend before Igor made any mistakes.

The street was crowded with people, men, women, and surprisingly kids. The street was clean and tidy, at least far away from what Vaterian expected.

Some children ran as a crowd toward Vaterian and ram on him, Vaterian quickly put his hand on the pouch to make sure nothing would be lost but seems he cared too much about it.

"Sorry, Miseur!" An old women ran toward him and apologized to Vaterian. She had a basket in her hand, Vaterian peaked inside it, it was filled with bread and other normal stuff for a living.

"You live in this street, Lady?" Asked Vaterian.

"No, I'm from the other street nearby. Sorry for those kids, they always playing here during this time, never paying attention to other people around them." The old woman looked at those children and said.

"Was that a good idea to let their child run around here? I mean it might be not the best place for a child to stay in." Vaterian looked at those Sirens shops or in another word, brothels and said.

"Better than playing in a dark alley, right? Southerner." The old lady stared at Vaterian and walked away after she finished her sentence.

"Oh ho, seems like someone made lady Somer unhappy." A skittish sound comes from the right. Vaterian looked in the direction, as he expected the guy he found was there.

"When do you know the lady? I don't remember you came here before." Vaterian was Curious about the fact that Igor had information on the lady.

"Passion on a certain thing brings people together, it is just a coincidence that we had the same interest on Sirens Bay." Igor snatched the pouch hanging on Vaterian's belt and take a look in it.

"Hmmm, that's a healthy amount of money enough for me to have some conversation with those precious Sirens."

"How come Lady Somer had an interest in this place? She doesn't look like she needed anyone to help with her personal desire."

Vaterian took back the pouch and continue speaking, "and you also need to tell me why the cost for those prostitu…Sirens were so expensive."

"You need to understand that not everyone grew up in an ivory tower, Misieur. Not every place has the same lighting as in your palace, but all of us need a palace to relax ourself or do our activities at night. Sirens bay is just an ideal place for us, Lady Somer grew up in Sirens bay, so do I."

"Furthermore Mister Vaterian, the best Sirens was far more expensive than you thought and most of them don't sell their body. If you searching for those Sirens that are willing to rent themselves for you, you might need to go to some dark alley nearby, most of them won't appear on the main street. At least in this area, the regulation was quite strict."

"So what do you do with those 'Sirens', apparently you can't have intercourse with them. Maybe you can explain to me where most of my money went to?" Vaterian was unpleasant about the answer Igor gave.

"Talking and drinking together, what else could we do? On some occasions, I can listen to their singing, but most of the time they sing much worse than I did." Igor didn't hesitate to tell Vaterian where all the money was spent.

"I think we need to discuss this issue later, but right now you better told me where you've been to."

"Oh, I forget that you are still a virgin." Igor laughed at Vaterian, but Vaterian didn't seem to care about it.

"Then let me show you where I just went, I swear you will love it."

"I doubt it will be true, but if you say so why not?" despite being calm on his face, Vaterian wasn't as steady as he looks like.
