Chapter 7 - 7. Black Smoke?

Lola's POV

When Ken and I arrive back to the house, Everyone is standing in the yard staring around to the side of the house.

"What's going on?" Ken yelled out

"Look....." Aurora pointed to the side of the house that everyone was looking at. Black smoke was seeping out of a window, I'm pretty sure it's Eve's bedroom.

"Is there a fire? Why haven't you put it out?" I asked no it's not a fire I realized soon after the words left my mouth.

"Ella went to see Matt." Ethan said sounding strained

Ken and I moved closer to the window, I remembered I couldn't get too close, but I needed to see if I could see Ella, was she going to be ok.

"Ken can you or Peter see anything?" Uncle Ryan asked the boys

We all pushed forward Aurora and I stopped when we could no longer breath, but I noticed Uncle Ryan and Ethan pushing forward with Eve, Peter and Ken. Then Ethan stopped crouching down and clutching his chest. Uncle Ryan made it only a few steps further then he fell to the ground out cold.

Ken's POV

As I looked closer searching the room for any signs of Ella I glimpsed at Matt he was still lying on the bed the same way I had seen him when I first woke but although the smoke clearly was coming from him there was empty air surrounding him and Ella was also in the empty space. She looked like she was crying latched onto Matt's shoulder with her head down on his chest.

I sat on the ground in front of the house still trying to catch my breath, Uncle Ryan was still out cold Ethan seemed ok but the worry on his face for his father was quite clear. Soon after Ken and Eve went to check Matt's room from the outside they returned.

"I see her, but I don't think the smoke is getting her." I told Eve then pointed through the window.

"We need to somehow help Matt before he can't protect her anymore." Eve said while pushing her face close to the window.

"Could you see her?" Ethan asked jumping up from the ground next to Uncle Ryan.

"Yes, Matt has a pocket of air around her and himself she seems fine for now." Eve stated

"What should we do?" Lola asked blankly looking up at me as I stood next to stood next to where she was sitting.

"I don't know." I said quietly and placed my hand on her head.

"How did it go when you and Ken went back and talked to Ken's family?" Eve asked suddenly

"They are not my family." I raised my voice and removed my hand from Lola and took a few steps away.

Lola stood up and step over to me "You know what she meant." she told me quietly then turned to Eve. "Not there but do you really think they would know what to do?"

Lola's POV

I didn't want to tell Eve about the message the old man had left because unless we have to or unless Ken wants to I am not contacting the old man.

I think they seem to know a lot about magic and more about Horseman and Keepers then most angels or demons do. I'll ask for other help but tracking down Ken's biological family and asking for help might be the only way in the end.

"We need to figure out what was given to him?" Evan states still gasping from the lack of air trying to get to the house to Ella.

" Lola and I can go back to the motel and search the room." Aurora stated Ken came close and griped me tight to him. I patted his hand that was around my waist.

" No Lola and Ken need to work on finding Ken's biological family. You take Peter with you will need the protection." Eve interjected. I nodded in agreement.

Aurora looked desperately to me pleading with her eyes to not leave her alone with Peter, then she looked over to Ethan who was still looking at the house toward Ella. She huffed defeated and turned to go to her car.

Aurora's POV

I can't believe everyone ditching me and leaving me alone with Peter. Thank goodness we are almost at the cabins. This has been a long 2 hours.

"What exactly do you expect that we will find at these cabins?" Peter suddenly asked over the music.

I turned the music down a bit to answer, "I'm not totally sure maybe some more clues so we know what's wrong with Matt, or maybe we can figure out who did this to him."

"I thought my brother was dead," Peter said almost too softly to hear, "I want him better I want him to be able to be mad at me for being a horseman and happy that he isn't left out anymore."

Peter looked somber and the mood in the car shifted with his mood, I suddenly started becoming very light headed. "Peter stop." I managed to say as I used my last bit of energy pulling over to the side of the road.

I woke up in the passenger seat with Peter driving my car.

"Sorry about that, but don't worry I'll get us there." Peter proclaimed

"Just drive." I wanted to make him pull over so I could once again drive but it wasn't worth the fight and we were getting very close to the cabins anyway.

Lola's POV

When Uncle Ryan finally started to wake up I pulled Ken aside, he has to understand we need them to help us. " I think we should contact the old man."

"There has to be some other way." Ken told me

"Eve seemed pretty confidant that they would be able to help, I didn't tell her we can contact them because I know you aren't ready yet but now, we don't know how long Ella will last in there. And we can't even go in the house, we have to do something." I pleaded with Ken but the look on his face was colder than I had ever seen.

"I'll talk with Eve there has to be another way." And with those words he walked off to find Eve.

I slowly followed behind Ken and walked up while he was arguing with Eve. "…it's not like we are the first horseman someone up there has to know something." As Ken's voice got louder red smoke started to spring from his fingers and head. I hurried over to him. I reached out my hand to touch his arm and was stung violently by the smoke it felt like a hive of wasps had stung me all at once.

"Aaah", I screamed out and recoiled my hand. Eve looked at me with shock in her eyes.

"Are you ok?" Eve asked stepping further away from Ken and closer to me.

I uncurled my hurting hand from my body to look at it. "It looks fine, I'm fine." I told Eve but while my hand looked fine it still felt like poison was racing through it. While Eve had been checking on me Ken hadn't moved from his position, he was still looking were Eve had been standing and even his posture was the same. "Ken?" I called to him still a scared to approach him. "Ken? Can you hear me?" I yelled this time loud and with force, but he still did not move. "What's wrong with him?" I asked Eve

"I'm not sure, we need his family's help and I know he doesn't want it but it seem Angles don't keep records about Horseman for safety reasons, I tried explaining that to Ken."

"It's ok I know what to do." I did know and I can help, but I really hope this is the right choice.
