Chapter 3 - Watchers from the Shadows

Xizreth handed a cold can of juice to Felice and smiled. They had been walking for hours and had only covered a quarter of the campus by noon. He sat down next to her on a bench shaded by large trees.

"This campus is unlike anything I have ever seen," said Felice. "It's said to be the size of a small city, but from the inside it seems much larger."

He had noticed that himself actually, and her thoughts had confirmed it. He made a mental note to ask a professor about it later.

"Yes, it does," Xizreth replied with a smile as he popped open the top of the can juice in his hand. He took a long pull of his drink then looked at Felice. To be honest he had never had any interest in another person before, but something about this girl had caught his eye. He just, for the life of him, couldn't figure out what it was.

Felice looked at him questioningly with a half smile.

"Enjoying the view perv?" She said with a wink and a giggle.

It was Xizreth's turn to blush. He hadn't been looking at her in that manner, but her boldness had caught him off guard.

"N..no," he stammered. "I mean yes, I do, but I wasn't looking at you that way."

This made her giggle even harder.

"You're cute Xizreth," she said when she calmed down. I like that in a guy.

He ran his fingers through his hair and sighed. What have I gotten myself into? He mused to himself.

"So where should we be off to next Felice?" He said promptly changing the subject.

Three figures lurked nearby in the shadows watching the actions of the two students sitting on the bench. They had been following them all morning. The female was their target, the male had been an unidentified surprise. The girl was said to not care for the company of others, and was more often than not found alone. This information seemed to prove faulty, as the target sitting before had been in the company of the boy all morning since exiting the dorms. The disappearance of one student was commonplace at the academy. Accidents happen. But two students disappearing at once was another story entirely. No orders were given for this circumstance.

"Chief, we cannot proceed as planned. The target is not alone, and the company of the target is currently unidentifiable, over."

A beep was heard over the headset before a soft and deep voice replied.

"The male student she is sharing a dorm with is one Xizreth Digas, son of the late Vannak Digas," the male voice said flatly.

The man trembled upon hearing these words. If this was true then they may be in over their heads. Nothing was known about the sone of Vannak Digas aside from his name and age.

His headset beeped again before the deep voice interrupted his thoughts.

"The pay will be tripled for both of them brought in dead or alive," the man said coldly before the headset went silent.

Tripled?! Well this just got interesting, the man thought to himself smiling evilly. The two other men with him shared the same wicked smile, showing they shared his thoughts.

"Let's go boys, he said to his companions. We have a job to finish."
