The siblings followed the goddess as she stepped through the portal she opened. In the other side of the portal, they saw a temple with a structure similar to ancient Greek buildings back in Earth.
"Whoa..."
The siblings were speechless. The temple is all pure white marble. The pillars have an intricate design that pleases the eye. And then there's the temple's atmosphere that calms the mind. Truly a sight that would take away the breath of anyone that would lay their eyes upon such majestic architecture.
They climbed up the stairs and stopped few steps away from a gigantic door.
"Welcome to the Temple of The Divine, the home of Goddesses like me."
As if responding to Ferasin, the giant door opened, revealing the wonders inside.
The quality of the interior of the temple won't lose to the beauty of its exterior.
You can describe the inside of the temple as extravagant yet comfortable. Different exquisite paintings hanged from the walls of the halls, and there's a potted plant near every pillar inside. Expensive looking objects were in display here and there. A golden chandelier hangs in the main lobby, with a warm glow.
No matter where you go, you can see the soft, red carpet covering the floor.
The air inside the temple is just at the right temperature that would make anyone feel at home. Truly a home befitting for divine beings.
Yet, the place is eerily silent. And it brought the siblings an unsettling feeling.
"Well then, let's go. Follow me."
Following Ferasin as they walk through the temple's hallways, Chloe can't get rid of the strange feeling she and her brother is experiencing.
"Whoa... I still can't get over how beautiful this temple is."
Dane said, but no one replied to his statement as they continued on their pace.
"Miss Ferasin, why does it seem that this abode of the Gods feels like, strangely quiet?"
Ferasin stopped in her tracks, and then the sound of footsteps behind her disappeared. Few moments of silence passed, until Ferasin turned around to give Chloe a glance, anger burned clearly in her eyes. But it only lasted for a blink of an eye until her expression turns back to her usual demeanor.
Chloe's mind was filled with confusion for a second, but she pushed that thought to the back of her head.
"You see, the other Goddesses have their own businesses to attend to, and they are quite busy, so if you expected a warm welcome, we're sorry that we failed you. So, I'm the only one who've greeted you then brought you here."
"Ah, it's fine, it's fine Miss. We don't mind it."
Chloe waved her hands to dismiss the subject.
"So Miss Ferasin, where are you taking us?"
Dane raised his hand to get Ferasin's attention. Ferasin smiled. She waved at the two to follow her and continued to walk towards their destination. As they carried on, Ferasin answered their inquiries.
"Where you ask? Of course, to the Transfer Chamber."
"Transfer Chamber? What's that?"
Curiosity apparent in Dane's voice, Ferasin gladly answered his question.
"I told you that you are heroes, right? The Transfer Chamber will send you to the a place where will you be summoned by this world's people. It's where I also grant you your abilities, so you can start your journey to save the world from evil. Do you understand?"
Dane nodded. Chloe inquired next about their situation.
"So what can we get if finished our mission?"
Ferasin replied.
"Well, all I can promise is anything. Anything within what I can give that is. For example, knowledge. I can grant that. Your reward can also differ depending on your performance in this world. So I hope you'll do your best for the sake of the people or even just for you selfish request. Of course, your behavior will also affect what you can get, so better behave yourselves."
Organizing her thoughts, Chloe gave her answer to the Goddess.
"So we are forced to be here, forced to fight for people we don't know just because you can offer a reward?"
"I guess that's about it."
Ferasin shrugged. Seeing her actions, Chloe's expression turned sour, and with a tinge of malice in her voice, she said.
"Are you stupid?"
Hearing her words, Ferasin raised an eyebrow while Dane tried to pacify her little sister.
"Now now, Chloe, that's being rude let's hear their side of the story first."
"Rude? So you think dragging us into their own problem isn't rude? Brother, when will you realize that you're a naive and gullible person."
Dane took a step back after hearing his sister. Chloe snapped and glared at him, she then turned to Ferasin and said.
"And what if we don't want to become heroes?"
Ferasin's previous lax expression turned to a cold indifference. Her eyes no longer hold the kind light it has before. What replaced that kindness was pure hatred.
"Of course, you can refuse."
Ice cold words came out of her mouth, and then two orbs of light appeared just above her head and went straight for the siblings followed by the appearance of a magic circle below their feet.
Because of the sudden change to Goddess' behavior, the two siblings were surprised and were slow to react and dodge the orbs of light. The orbs of light went inside their bodies like they were absorbed.
Screams of pain came from the two as they squirm like worms. Dane and Chloe felt like their whole bodies are on fire and their heads are about to split open. It was a painful sensation to them.
Then the magic circle below them glowed brightly as to cover them with blinding light. And after that, the pained cries disappeared and silence returned in the temple.
The lone goddess turned her back towards the location where the siblings disappeared, and walked towards the destination in her mind. With a murmur, she left behind these words.
"You can refuse, but I don't care about that."
"After all, it was your fault that it has come to this."
In the end, the Transfer Chamber wasn't used to transfer the heroes to their destination.
