I felt the energy changing again, and this time, it almost made me sick to the stomach. Was this hut flying? I had no way to confirm my suspicion, so just focused on counting in my mind. Upon reaching twenty four, I gripped my hand on the wooden lock and slowly pulled it backwards.
White. It was all white. Was I in a white marble castle?
"You coming out?"
I glanced at the man, who looked like he spent most of his days working under the sun, and I waved a 'hi' at him.
Was I in a trance or is this guy actually super handsome? He was a real life Victoria secrets model, and I blinked a few times to get the dazed look out of my eyes.
He wore loose fitting beige cotton pant and a half coat of the same colour without sleeves. A matching scarf was tied around his body vertically and all in all, he radiated the vibe a typical guardian would have.
His abs were making me wonder if God have chiseled him out of a chocolate coloured marble and I wouldn't be surprised if my assumption turns out correct. This man was perfection. And how the hell does the authority think we could keep our prying hands away from these beauties? This is torture.
If they want us to be good, then they should have appointed normal men who wouldn't sway our poor hearts.
"Miss, you can't stay there for too long. The next soul is waiting."
On instinct, I rushed out of the small cubicle, only to stumble on my own legs and fall face down in front of my Apollo. I could hear him stifling a laugh and I have never felt more embarrassed in my death life.
A strong hand encircled my arm, and I was lifted the from ground as if I was a feather. Wow... They must be super strong.
"Are you all right?"
Although his facial features gave nothing away, his eyes were smiling, and it soothed me for some reason. I guess every other super natural being might have a calming effect on nervous wrecks like me. Otherwise it would be too hard to run a system like this.
"Thank you. I am not usually this clumsy."
I said, despite the fact that I have no idea what kind of a person I was in the past.
"It's not your fault, Miss. Could you hand me the file, please."
His politeness was so elegant and gentlemanly, but my collected mind was ready to face his hotness. If I will have to survive another six months or so in this realm, then I will have to learn to withstand their charming nature.
I extended the file with little delay and tried to hide the heart signs in my eyes.
"Sure." My sound came out bolder than I expected and for a second I saw amusement passing through his features. Maybe he is used to people swooning at him more than rational behaviour.
He guided me through the white hallway, which seemed endless. I turned back to see how far I have walked from the cabin, but was surprised to see my transportation no where in sight. It was just the hallway and there was no beginning or end to it. This might be an illusion.
We continued walking, while his eyes were immersed in my file.
"Bethany, isn't it?"
I glanced at him and nodded, forgetting that he couldn't see me.
"Are you aware of the rules and regulations here?"
He still wasn't looking at me, but something told me that he could see my face without even turning back. He is a guardian, after all.
"I signed something like a contract down there and Elize has informed me of the basics. I don't know if there is anything else."
He shook his head in understanding and took out a pen from his pocket before scribbling something on the paper.
"It might take a while for you to get familiar with the new environment. Since this realm is in the middle of hell and heaven, there are all kinds of souls here, except the extreme bad ones. But that doesn't mean all the souls are innocent. I see that you here for a short period, hence concentrate on your performance and try to be reborn as a human. Don't get mingled in other's business or engage in fights. Some guardians can be very strict and they have the right to kick you out."
I nodded again, suddenly intimidated by his serious voice. This definitely is a detention center. He stopped midway and turned to face the wall, which started to part slowly. I was amused, but not surprised anymore. In fact, I expected something like this.
"Please follow me."
I did as asked and the first thing I noticed was the long queue.
"Are all these people here for...?"
I trailed seeing the infinite counters on the other end of the large hall. People who were similarly dressed as my guide were directing the dead what to do and my eyes locked on the female guardians.
Damn, for a second I thought I was homosexual in my previous life but soon saw the way how each one of the soul was gawking at the guardians.
"We are all normal looking people, but it's the energy that makes us attractive. Don't fall for it and make your stay here hard. This is a special piece of advice for you, as I noticed the way you were trying to control yourself. It is not possible for most of them but since you have such an ability, put it into good use."
I smiled at him gratefully, thinking it was wise to keep the flooding questions in my mind to myself.
"Go stand behind that line. It won't take much time. Our system is faster than you can imagine."
I grinned brightly at him and murmured a 'thankyou' before heading to the other way.
So far, my experience with the guardians was pleasant, and I hoped it would continue that way. They were trained to be hospitable, and I doubt they will harm us for minor mistakes.
Just like my second guardian said, the line was getting shorter after each passing second, but I let out a gasp once I turned back. Thousands of people were standing behind me, and it has only been a few minutes since I took my position. I was amazed by the fact that even though the death rate was high; the population was still above average in the human world.
I was studying each and every face, hoping that I would recognize any one of them from newspapers or television, but was interrupted when a commotion started from ahead.
A muscular man was punching another man, who couldn't even lift his clenched fist against his opponent.
"I told you thousand times not to bump into me."
The man growled like a tiger and continued to throw his fist in the air. Children started crying on seeing the gruesome scene, and I was confused as hell to see blood splattering all around the white marbled tiles.
Weren't we dead? Or is it common for dead people to have blood?
I thought the guardians would interfere soon, but they simply stood there, watching the fight unfolding, just like everyone else.
One of the female guardian took out a small cellular device and murmured something into it. It must be a walkie talkie. After placing it back in her pocket, she shared glances with the other guardians and nodded slightly. Are they going to send him to hell? Was that the conversation about?
Suddenly there was a thunderous sound, and the dome of the hall moved to form a wide circle. Light blinded my eyes for a split second, obstructing any further view. The next thing I saw was something magical and enticing at the same time. Two enormous wings flapped together, causing strong wind to sway us.
I imagined an Angel to be something like that, but the unique thing was the colour of the wings. One was white and the other one was black. As if he/she was half good and the other part was pure evil. I couldn't see the person's face as their body was tiny compared to the large wings that covered the entire dome.
"You are doomed."
I heard the female guardian shouting to the problem creator, and panic masked his entire face.
I diverted my attention back to the set of wings that was slowly descending, and 'HIS' face became more clear.
I didn't know if I should call it angelic or sinister because one of his eyes was pitch black and the other was ocean blue, as if two people shared a single body.
His orbs were sweeping the entire place, and it passed me briefly. The energy he radiated was definitely not calming, hence it was standing out in this serene place.
He was wearing a pant similar to the others, but the moment his feet touched the ground, resulting in a slight shake, his entire clothing changed to black jeans and white figure hugging shirt. And damn, it would be a waste to not look at those perfectly shaped limbs.
If his energy went unnoticed by some extremely careless person, his style would be never missed. But the intensity in his eyes will stop any individual from approaching him or passing a flirtatious comment.
"Now, to whom do I owe my visit?"
Shit! His voice!
