Chereads / Journey Trough Hell / Chapter 3 - Raging Calamity.

Chapter 3 - Raging Calamity.

The once dark tunnel now was illuminated by a white floating ball.

[A purified soul has been detected. Does the host want to absorb it?]

The cold mechanical voice rang in Arthur's brain.

"I see, so that's a soul."

Arthur muttered as he extended his arm and grabbed the white ball. It was soft and warm, yet Arthur could feel that something was missing.

"System, you mentioned a purified soul. What does that mean?"

[Answer: The soul has been automatically purified by the system.]

"And why is that?"

[Answer: A unpurified soul would have affected the user's state of mind due to the user being level 1]

The answer made Arthur have a bit more trust in the system. From the start, when he saw the system, he thought about it was the system really only obeying him.

"System, I would like to absorb this soul."

As soon as Arthur finished his sentence, the soul in his hand vanished and his head felt a type of pain he never felt before. All of his head was hurting. His brain felt like it was penetrated by a sword and chopped down into bits.

The pain made him lose the grip of the rock and crystal in his hand. His whole body was unresponsive.

Soon after, he vomited water and some mucus along with it. After stopping the vomiting, Arthur looked angry. His veins appeared on his forehead, his muscles tightened, his heart rate and blood pressure increased too. After he devoured the soul, he also gained some informations that was the reason for his head pain and the vomiting.

There were many things he learned from devouring that soul, but the most important was that he was in hell. Learning that anger overtook his thought.

Why was he in hell?

This may sound like he was egotistical, but Arthur did nothing worthy of being thrown into hell. He helped the poor; he used the money he won from his fightings for charities; he used to help around his neighbourhood; he took care of old people; etc. Overall, he did many good deeds in his life. Of course, he didn't though himself to be a saint or anything like that. No, he knew he did bad things in his life, but none of those were anything serious like killing, kidnapping, or anything like that.

So why was he in hell?

These thoughts made him lose himself to anger.

[Notice: The skill Rage has been acquired.]

[Notice: Skill Rage has developed into the skill Berserk]

That was what Arthur last heard before losing his consciousness. The next thing he knew, is waking up in a totally unknown place.

He was surrounded by what looked like oversized mushrooms. These mushrooms varied from what looked like 1 meter tall to even 5 meters tall. The other strange thing about the mushrooms was their color. It was a light neon green that gave off green light.

Arthur got up and looked around to see if there were any enemies. From the info Arthur got, he knew that the hell was like a dungeon that had superficially infinite floors. Each floor grew larger the deeper one goes also, the concentration of magic in the air also grew this meant that if a demon was not strong enough, he couldn't go the next level or the magic in the air would be too much for him and it could lead to the demon dying.

Arthur got info about the levels until 100 after that. The demon he killed knew nothing else. It is worth to mention that the demon never went to the 99 floor, otherwise it would be too much for Arthur to take at his current self, but the demon knew about it due to the knowledge he gained after being born.

Each demon is born with knowledge their parents gained about hell, but nothing else, such as fighting skills or intelligence.

From Arthur's newly gained knowledge, he knew he was on the fifth floor, the green mushrooms floor. Well, the floor didn't have a name, the name was given by Arthur himself.

Nonetheless, Arthur did not know how he got here, but he didn't even bother to find out, as his answer was already in his face on the blue interface.

[Congratulations on absorbing over 100 Souls because of this achievement, the function 'shop' is now available.]

Name: Arthur

Race: None

Level 7(67%)

Bloodline: None

Title/s: Martial Artist, Raging Calamity(+2STR).

Stats:

Strength: 42

Defense: 30

Speed: 37

Mana: 100(10/min.)

Skills: Berserk.

Arthur looked at his new status with a bit of confusion.

"System, how do stats increase when I level up?"

[Answer: Each level up gives the user 10 unassigned stats points that can be added to any stat the user desires.]

After he heard the answer of the system, Arthur was even more confused.

"System who assigned my stats then?"

[Answer: The user did while the skill Berserk has been activated.]

"I see, so I did it while I was unconscious."

While thinking, Arthur went to a mushroom and sat on it.

"This Berserk skill. What does it do system?"

Even though he knew the answer himself, Arthur wanted to hear it from the system.

[Answer: The skill Berserk allows the user to double his stats for an undefined amount of time in exchange for hosts reasoning and sometimes consciousness.]

Sure enough, it was as Arthur expected.

Even so, he cleared his thoughts and focused on the new feature that was the shop.

"System, open the shop"

Arthur commanded.

Soon enough yellow interface appeared in his face.

Shop:

Next Reset: 23:50:39

(A/N: the store will reset every 24h hours and sometimes it might have new items or the items might repeat themselves.)

Souls Owned: 100

Mana Potion:

Price: 500 Souls

Info: A potion that once drank increases one's mana by 10.

Leather Armor.

Price: 50 Souls

Info: a set of armor made of leather.

Ogre Pants

Price: 50 Souls

Info: A pair made of ogre skin.

In the store, there were more items, but these three were the ones who caught the eye of Arthur. He knew that to rise his mana would be a waste if a level up gave only 10 stats. As such, the mana potion was the best solution to this problem.

The reason he wanted to take the ogre pants and the leather armor was because he was tired of being naked his body was full of scratches due to him going berserk that was because he lucky that the enemies where weak otherwise he could have died, so armor and some clothes were a must!

"So the store uses souls as currency. Well, this is going to be quite the problem."

Even though he said that, he still pressed the Ogre Pants and the Leather armor.

Out of nowhere, a pair of pants came falling onto Arthur's face while next to it a breastplate made of leather and a pair of leather gauntlets.

Arthur took the pants off his face and looked at them. They were green and looked like they belonged in the medieval era, but they were better than nothing. He quickly put them on and surprisingly they fit perfect!

'This must be the work of the system'

Arthur taught to himself.

After that, he looked at the breastplate made of leather and the gauntlets. The items didn't look bad. They were actually well crafted and had some medieval theme to them.

He put the armor on and he looked and felt way better, and his body was finally warming up.
