Nikolai's POV
There was no time to think. He had to move. Now! The regent thought as he hastily sidestepped her touch, flashing towards the door without a moment's hesitation. It was that or breaking the promise he had made to her.
He paused at the door, glancing at her from the distance, guilt slowly trickling into his heart- an emotion that he hadn't felt for ages. Nikolai grit his teeth in irritation. The girl. She was making him feel more than he should and his mind was being swayed from his cause.
The sight of her tears was bothering him, piercing at his heart like a poison needle, spreading the urge to reach out through his blood. Yet he knew that it was best for the both of them that he stayed where he was. He watched in angst, her pale hand rising to her soft cheek just as a tear slipped her through delicate lashes.
