Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Ignoring treason

The slave that she had seen a couple of hours ago struggling with all her strength lay on the red silken sheets of the large king-sized bed before her. All that was between her private parts and Eve's eyes were the heavy strings of jewelry that hung loosely from her shoulders, narrowing down to a thin golden chain as it stopped right below her nipples, only to widen again at the space between her legs.

Her hands were tied to either side of the bedposts by heavy ropes and her legs kept shifting to the sides. At first, she thought that the girl was uncomfortable. But at the very next moment, her hips arched up, her legs widening as she let out a moan of pleasure. Her jeweled clothing slightly shifted to the side as a result, revealing a thick rubbery substance vibrating furiously inside her core, making her leak into the sheets.

Eve quickly looked away from the sight, her face red with embarrassment. But as much as she tried to ignore it, she kept wondering what the thing inside the girl was. Was it magic? Or was it some kind of creature that she hadn't seen before? And as she lost herself in her thoughts, her grip on the knife loosened, making it fall on the rough black marble with a clang.

She jumped back, startled by the sound, right into a set of firm hands that caught her before she could fall. Eve looked up slowly, her heart thumping against her chest rapidly in fear. A pair of dark purple eyes stared back at her, the wrinkles around her almond-shaped eyes defining themselves as they narrowed in disappointment.

Eve quickly pushed herself off of the older woman, standing upright with her head bowed nervously. The matron had caught her. Now she was done for. No matter where it was, she knew that the punishment for treason will not be light. But at least she had tried, she thought, her hands clenching into fists as she stared at her naked feet against the matted marble.

She licked her dry lips, wetting them nervously as she started, "I-"

"Move." The matron's voice came, accompanied by a stern push outside the curtains.

Eve staggered back, watching in surprise as the older woman bend down to pick up the weapon that she had dropped, only to stash it inside the pocket of her dress hidden well between the skirt's folds. The matron closed the curtains behind her, hiding the writhing woman behind it with much care. She then turned to her.

"What are you standing there for?" The woman asked, a slight frown pulling at the corner of her lips. "You have work to do."

Eve stared at the woman for a good two seconds with her mouth wide open in surprise. Was the woman blind or did she just ignore the weapon that she had dropped inside the king's tent? She wondered, unable to comprehend the situation.

There was no anger in the witch's eyes nor any sign of pretending. The woman seemed to have looked over the treason that she was about to commit. And how had she reached there within seconds? Had she been under watch all along? Then why didn't the matron stop her?

The matron did not wait for the questions in Eve's mind to subside, nor did she look like she would entertain answering one. Taking a quick look around them, she walked forward, pulling along a dumbstruck Eve along with her. The witch's hands were firm on her arm as she led her through the screaming writhing bodies that now occupied every inch of the room.

It was only when they came behind the stairs that the matron let her go. Then, without saying much, she walked away, leaving a wide-eyed Eve to herself. There was nothing about the moment that Eve could point to as normal. Why had the matron helped her? She thought, staring at the wide slender back of the woman busying about tending to the guests.

She was still contemplating the reasons for such a move when Litty came to her, putting down the empty tray in her hands on the table with much other such silverware.

"Where did you go?!" The girl asked, looking flustered. "I've been looking everywhere for you!"

Eve sighed, glancing at Litty before bending down to help the girl pile up the dishes. Judging by her reddened complexion and her crumpled clothes, it was obvious that something had happened. But her mind was partially still preoccupied.

"What happened?" Eve asked, stacking one tray over the other slowly.

"Don't ask. If it weren't for the matron, I would have been drained by those creatures by now!" Litty exclaimed, pushing up her sleeves to show her the bruises on them.

Eve's eyes widened at the sight, her mind quickly pushing aside all other thoughts. She had completely forgotten that the girl was as prone as anyone else to the advances of the beasts that occupied the entirety of the room they were standing in. Her eyes wandered the contours of the girl's body, searching for any open wounds.

Relief flooded her features when she failed to find any. Seems like the matron had got to the girl in time. She had saved not one, but two lives tonight. But why? Why when she wasn't bothering with the others? Eve wondered, her eyes moving towards the few lifeless bodies laying on the floor in horror.

Monsters. She thought, her eyes welling up with tears. They're all monsters preying on those weaker than them. Another scream broke through the steady beat of the drum, syncing with the high-pitched tone of the violin.

The tailor's daughter continued. "Did you know that-"

Suddenly, she stopped, a gasp escaping her chest as she was pulled away from where she stood. Eve's head snapped to the direction in alarm.

"Hey there." A man said, raising the girl's thin hand up to his mouth in hunger. "Why don't you come with me?"
