Eve paced back and forth in the enormous room anxiously. The last rays of the setting sun pierced through the painted glass windows, landing on her slender frame softly, making her dark hair almost appear red. It made the green of her eyes stand out like sparkling emeralds.
But neither the way her frame reflected on the mirror nor the way the little Robins sang their last song for her caught her attention. It was odd for someone like her not to be enraptured by the pure luxury that the room was wrapped in.
The soft velvet cushions of the diwan and the heavy drapes around the windows failed to impress her. Her eyes unintentionally flicked towards the king-sized bed standing tall in the middle of the room. Her cheeks reddened at the sight of the disheveled silken sheets threatening to fall towards the carpeted floor.
"Dammit, Eve!" She cursed, her hands clenching into fists. "What were you thinking?!"
It had been four days since she was brought to the castle against her will- a sacrifice that the village was all too willing to do. She blamed them for everything. But above all, she blamed her father and his inability to protect his own wife. Her eyes teared as she remembered Meredith's warm smile. It all started on that damn night.
"I should have let you die that night." Eve whispered, shivering with rage.
