The circumstances at the lowest district is horrible, the air smells like excrements and the houses look like ruins in a ghost town. You can't hear any noises. No people chatting. Even the birds are staying quiet. Only the sound of the wind and the stomping of hooves on the ground. "Disgusting" I think. "I'm wondering if here once lived any people". We stopped in the middle of the streets, listening into the silence. Raymond says "I can hear the soft sounds of breathing. It looks like the people which are living here are still sleeping" The ears of fairies are really something awesome. "Here still live people?" I ask disbelieving. Horrified I imagine how their lives would look like. A shiver runs down my spine. That's inhuman. This is something I would like to change once I'm Lucas wife. Nervously my horse scrapes with his hooves and his ears rotates in all directions. We ride off again, to escape the silence and loneliness.
A short while later the dark atmosphere lightens up and the noises of working people reaches my ears. The buildings are all completed but these of the classic lower classes. Small houses made of wood and stone with a roof made of straw. Soon after entering the district the first people are entering my sight. Women on the way to the market with a basket in their hands. Or men which transport goods from one to another point. Everyone of them stops one the spot as soon as they get sight of me and my chevalier. Their glances are distrustful but not hostile toward us. I'm setting on a light smile, hoping it shows my friendly thoughts about them but I would bet it looks like I'm looking down on them. But that's something I will deal with later. Raymond and I have to hurry. I can't wait to finally see my betrothed. Every now and then nodding at someone which huried out of our way, we get through the biggest part of the city. Through the crowd in the very big market place and to the wall that separates the high and the lower classes districts.
The guards were already informed and let us pass the gate after a short conversation. In strong contrast to the poor circumstances before, shows the high class district his wealth through flaunting their wasteful use of materials at their habitations. Golden decorations, huge mansions with marble statues. The gap between rich and poor is to big. Raymonds expression shows, that he wants to destroy it. As my chevalier he will see the sorrow of the people every day, for us this sight is a reason for rage. I shake my head, thinking how a whole group of people can turn a blind eye to the situation of the lower realms and live proud their magnificent live, while other people suffer or even die. It must be humiliating for every one of them to see their work strengthen the wealth of the rich. We ignore the shining buildings stubbornly and ride as fast as possible to the next wall, not even one human crosses our road. Surprisingly after a short investigation of our belongings, we get through. The security isn't the best. At home everything would be checked over and over, not the least thing would be overlooked and weapons have to be given until the last day of their stay in the palace. I'm shrugging my shoulders. Can only be right for me, so I have no trouble to get it back when I go outside. The doors of the palace are wide opened servants standing left and right to welcome us with curtesy. We get down from the horse and pass them to a hand reaching out to the bridle. A man currently in his 40's waiting for us there. "Welcome to the palace of Greenhill kingdom, Princess Milena."
