Chapter 35 - Chapter 35 - Years Ago

Mark slept on his bed. This was about ten years ago when Mark was only six years old.

"Brother... Brother... Brother wake up!!" His sister, Mia, wakes him up for training. Mark trains how to fight with his dad because Mark wants to be a warrior in the Kujukaeya Military.

"It's morning already?" Mark's eyes were still closed as he yawned. "Come on! Dad's waiting!" His brother walks into the room. Mark finally got up and stretched "Okay, let's do this!" He shouted with a big smile.

RISE OF IZUZUNU

VOLUME 4, CHAPTER 35, YEARS AGO

THE FLAMEDEW HOUSEHOLD'S BACKYARD

Mark's full name is Mark Flamedew. He was the second oldest in the family. His brother, Ben, is eight years old, Mark, six years old, and Mia, five years old. His mom was a cook at the nearest restaurant. Everyone goes there all the time because she is the best chef in their district.

His dad used to be a warrior in the Kujukaeya Military. Now Mark wants to be a warrior like his father used to be.

"Haah!!" Mark charges at his dad with a fake wooden sword "I will kill you!"

"Remember! Don't talk when you're fighting! That's wasting time!" His dad shouted. Mark quickly stops "What?" He asked.

His dad then hits Mark's head with the fake sword "You left yourself open" He laughed.

His brother and sister joined the laughter. "Dad... I think you should teach me something else" Mark suggested. "No, we have to teach you the basics first," His dad said.

"But we've been learning the basics for a whole month now!" He shouted. "Well, that's because... you don't know the basics yet, you're too slow... now come on, one more round" His dad gets in a stance.

"Kick his butt!" Mia shouted. Mark got in his stance and looked serious. "Haah!!" Mark screamed out, dashing towards his father.

His father dodges the attacks and blocks them with the sword. Mark gets on top of his dad "What the!?" His dad yelled out.

Mark was on his back "This is it!" Mark exclaimed in his head. His dad quickly knocks him off "Ouch!" Mark screamed.

His dad points the sword towards his neck "I got you again, but that was pretty close" His dad said. "Ugh... I'll never be a good fighter like you, Dad" He plans to give up; being very pessimistic.

"Don't give up, Mark. You'll learn it, watch" His dad grabs his arms "Let's go! We're going to the festival tonight!!" His dad exclaimed. "Yay!!" Mark and the others shouted out.

KUJUKAEYA FESTIVAL

Mark looked up at the sky while sitting in the back of the carriage. The horse carried the carriage as it walked through the paths. "So, Kujukaeya started 789 years ago??" Mia asked.

"No, it was more than that. 789 years ago was when they started the calendar" Mark explained. "We're here!!" His mom shouted.

"Woah!" "It's so bright!" "Beautiful!" The kids exclaimed as they hopped off the carriage. His dad tied a rope around a pole and hooked the rope around the horses. They walk around the festival seeing people wearing traditional clothing.

"Woah! They look so cool!" Mia shouted. Mark was happy. "Here! Let's play this game!" Ben shouted and pointed at a game called Ball in Hoop. It was basically basketball.

"If you make it three times without missing, you'll get a free stuffed toy!!" The man in charge of that station exclaimed. "Woah! Dad! Dad! Let's do this one!" Ben wanted to play.

"Okay, Mark, you versus Ben" His dad smiled. There were two basketball courts so they could do it. "It's okay. I don't feel like doing it" Mark declined the offer.

"Come on, Mark... if you do it... I'll take everyone to Feiburg Kingdom!!" His dad shouted out. Ben and Mia smiled "Really!? The place with all the fun amusement parks!?"

"Yes! That one!" He answered. Mark then asked and pointed his pinky out "Pinky promise?"

"Promise" His dad smiled as they hook their pinkies together. Mark gets ready to shoot his first shot. "You get three shots at this" The man explained "Make three shots, You get the big-sized stuffed toys, and make two shots, you get the small-sized toys, and make one, you get nothing at all"

"Okay sir" Mark bounces the ball. He then shoots as the ball flies through the air. "Come on Mark!" His mom and dad cheered.

The ball bounces off the rim. He missed. "Wha-!?" Mark stood there.

"My turn!" Ben shoots the ball perfectly into the hoop "Yes! I made it!" He shouted. His mom, dad, and sister were proud.

Mark looked angry "This shot, will be the one!" He shouted as he made it into the hoop.

"Woo!" "Go, Mark!" They all screamed out. Mark smiled happily as that was his first point. Ben makes another one in, now he has two points as Mark has only one. Mark throws another one as it bounces off the rim again "Wha-!!?"

Ben then throws his last shot and it goes into the hoop "Yay!! I got the big toys! I get the big toys!" He exclaimed.

"I'm so proud of you!" His mom shouted. "I want that one!" Ben pointed at the big giraffe.

"You get this one" The man hands Mark a small teddy bear.

Playing goldfish, catching goldfish, eating delicious sweets, playing mini-games, and watching the fireworks go off. After having fun at the festival, they finally got home.

"I'm done" Mark fell onto his bed and quickly fell asleep.

NIGHT OF THE ATTACK ON KUJUKAEYA

"Mark!!" "Mark!!" "Mark!!" "Mark!!!" His whole family shouted. Mark wakes up "What's happening?" He asked. A bomb goes off outside "BOOM!!"

His father quickly grabs him and carries him out of the house with the rest of the family "We're under attack!!"

Mark's face turned into fear as he said "What!?"

He looks behind his dad and watches as their house burns down. A missile in the sky falls onto their house and explodes. It was a terrifying scene. Mia and Ben were crying.

"It's going to be okay" The mom tried to calm them down as they ran to the horse with the carriage.

A missile falls straight down behind them as they fall to the ground. Mark then spots Phoenix's family. Phoenix's dad injects him with a needle as Phoenix yells.

"Phoenix!" Mark screamed out as Phoenix ran in the opposite direction to survive. He injected the memory-wiping fluid.

As Phoenix was running away, Usagian troops came running down the streets, killing everyone in their way. They stood in front of Phoenix's parents as they sliced their throats.

Mark's eyes widened in fear as his dad blocked the view "Mark... don't look at that!"

"That corner!" Mom yelled. They hid behind an alleyway to get away from the fires and bombings.

"Why is this happening?" Mark looked terrified and traumatized, his eyes widened the entire time. "Don't be scared! If you want to be a warrior, you can't be scared of things like this!" His dad shouted.

Mark cried out "But Phoenix! His family! They died-"

"Don't yell, before they hear us" His mom said. The mom points at the walls of Kujukaeya Kingdom "The wall! Let's get there and escape!" it was an opener wall, possibly destroyed by the missiles.

They all began running together through the fire. Mark looks up at the sky. The sky was filled with ashes from the fire and a few missiles.

They're right next to the Broken wall as Ben points at the south side of Kujukaeya "What is that?" He sounded terrified. The family stops and turns around to see a huge explosion with ten red dragon figures floating in the sky.

"The oshir!" The dad sounded horrified. They make it to the broken wall in the north and send the kids off. "Please! You need to go!" His father was staying behind.

"Dad! What are you going to do!?" Mark yelled. "I... I have to fight for this kingdom" He answered.

"No Dad! It's too dangerous!" Ben and Mia yelled as twelve Usagian troops walked through the streets and spotted them.

"I'm sorry... but you'll remember me again! I promise! You three will remember us! Just wait!" The dad was talking nonsense.

"What are you talking about Dad?" Mark asked "Dad?" He pulls out a syringe and stabs it into Mark's arms "Aah!"

Mark soon begins to black out. "Run! Run Mark!!" His mom and dad screamed as Mark began running into the forest and out of the Kingdom.

"Your turn" The dad turned to Mia and Ben. "What did you do to him, Dad!?" Mia yelled as the guards tackled the whole family.

They were thrown into a carriage. Mark suddenly falls to the ground in the woods, too tired to run. His eyes slowly closed as he blacks out.

The next day, Mark wakes up in a bed. He was in an unfamiliar room "What is this place? What happened?" He asked.

"We found you next to Kujukaeya lying down. Are you okay?" The elder asks. "Yeah..." then he realizes... who the hell is he?

"I'm... Mark," He said as he looked into the elder's eyes "But... I can't remember what happened to me" He said. "Get some rest... You had a rough time in Kujukaeya, I can tell" She says.

"Kujukaeya? What's that?" Mark asks. "It's nothing," She says.

Then she realizes something and asks "Wait... you don't remember anything?"

"I don't... I can't remember my parents, my life, my home... why can't I remember!?" He screamed. She knew it was the memory-wiping fluid. It erases their memories once injected into a person.

"It's nothing" She smiled "We're your new family now, that's all that matters" She smiles. "His dad probably erased his memories to protect him," She thought "But... the war is still ongoing"
