Chapter 3 - jungle

Thomas got up and looked around, seeing massive trees covered in vegetation. As Thomas tried to walk around with a cane from the hospital, using it on the uneven ground was hard. The ground of this jungle was wet and slippery, like it had just rained. Thomas knew he would die if he didn't find a return ruby before running into a monster. Thomas's eyes kept moving, and his hearing was on full alert. Monsters mostly had a better sense than normal humans, but their intelligence put them at the level of a typical animal or a bit higher. He needs to find some structure in this jungle. Only some type of building/ structure holds a return ruby or kills a monster but only a little chance for it to drop, and he could bearly walk right now, so fighting was a wrong decision. After Thomas walked for what felt like half an hour, falling a couple of times to bad footing or sound scaring him, he found a run-down small temple. The temple was covered in moss and roots. Some plants that were growing on top of it. The only reason Thomas could see it was a temple was some spots where you could see the hand-chiseled stone blocks that made it up. Thomas took a deep breath before he took a clumsy sprint to the temple. As he entered the temple, he heard a low growl form behind him from the forest. He didn't turn his head as push his body harder to move a little faster, taking the first step inside the mostly dark. Temple was mainly empty, and he was looking for something to help him fight whatever it was or escape from it. As he took a turn inside the only hallway near him in this empty room, he was in as he pushed into the hallway wall, and he saw it a small red gem the size of a penny. Then he heard the growl sounded; it had just entered the temple as Thomas pushed himself out of the hallway. As he saw now, the room was split in two. With a massive gap from an earthquake, it was 20 - 25 ft across; there was no way to get to the other side with the ruby. Thomas's eyes started to water, and his body shook as he knew he was going to die so close to his escape. This felt cruel to be so close to the escape. But then the growl got loud. As he turned to see what would kill, he saw two eyes of a wolf. The wolf had light green fur. It was the size of two wolfs with the same light green eyes as it opened; its maw showed many sharp teeth as it slowly started to come down the hallway. It walked normally like it saw Thomas like an easy meal. Thomas didn't want to die, but it seems had no choice in the matter as the wolf who had walked halfway down the hallway before the wolf started to sprint at him. The wolf pushed him to the ground. It got on top of Thomas before it tried to bite his neck. Thomas raised his arm, and the wolf bit into Thomas's arm. The pain made Thomas scream loudly; the wolf bit harder into his arm, making the pain so much worse Thomas started to hit and kick the wolf. It was more like he was flailing his arm and legs. The wolf seemed not to mind it until Thomas went for one of its eyes. Thomas sent a couple of fingers into the wolf eyesocket; it let go of his arm as it, backed away a bit as it, raised it to its head, and let out a deep howl before he bit him again in the shoulder and threw him across the gap Thomas hit the wall of the other side with a loud thud as he felt bone break. It took the most strength to stay awake as I saw the just staring at him, Thomas the ruby on a little pedestal. Tomas tried to raise his arm that wasn't broken to garb the ruby. As he moved, the wolf let out another loud growl before it jumped the jap as it walked to Thomas, Thomas garb the ruby and tried to crush it, but then the wolf stomped on his leg hard, and he felt his knee shattered. He let go of the ruby as it felt and rolled away by a bit. His mind only kept going by the small chance he could somehow leave his hellish jungle. Still, the wolf seemed not to care as it did the same to his other leg Thomas's whole body shook as he slammed his hand with the last of his energy and mind toward the ruby. All he needed to do was break it. He would leave here and maybe live after this. The sudden move made the wolf stop for a second as he slammed his hand into the return ruby; it shattered, sending a bright light covering the room in white light. When the light disappeared, Thomas saw the area near the hospital. As he was on his back a, voices started to yell and scream as men or women in heavy armor pointed guns until they saw how wounded he was before putting their guns down before a heavily armed guard pulled out a small phone and hit a button as he pulls out small vile around size or straw filled with a red liquid before he looks at Thomas wounds shake his head before putting it way before pulling out a bigger vile of a darker red liquid it the size of a flashlight before he hit a button on this side making a needle come out, he turns Thomas's head and finds a vain before he stabs it in the vain and pushes another button of type of the vile to inject the red liquid into Thomas body after a moment most cut start to close, and the bleeding stops the guard check Thomas pulse before nodding after a moment a team of EMT come and put Thomas on a stretcher before rushing back to the hospital to help him.
