Chapter 1 - Ch.1 A Familiar Face

It was a long morning with work running so late, that I almost forgot to grab my homework that was due today. I was half asleep riding the metro to school, but I swear I saw someone I knew. I couldn't tell you where I knew them from but it felt important. I decided to approach him when my phone vibrates in my hand, my timer was going off for my morning meds. When I look up he's gone. I had to get to school, if anything my mind is just messing with me. I went to a private high school, not many people were able to get into, I just barely got it myself. I should hurry to the bathroom so I can take my meds. I need to study for next week's quiz in French 3 tonight after I help Terry and Eliza, I have an essay to write for literature too. Damn, how am I gonna get that done? It's still only 7:30 so I have about forty minutes in the library before I need to get to class for attendance. I reach the bathroom and set my bag on the counter digging for my prescription, My mom has given me for most of my childhood and when I don't take it I can hardly function. I could already feel exhaustion creeping in from barely sleeping last night. When I find the bottle I pop two in my mouth and gulp water to wash them down. I hear someone flush one of the stalls and I immediately panic, shoving the medicine into my bag I hightail it out of the bathroom and rush to the library. "That, was far too close of a collision, how did I not hear them before?" I muttered out loud after checking in at the front desk. I find a table away from prying eyes, set my stuff down, take out my notes, research packet and get to work. I have most of my draft written up when my phone timer goes off and the warning bell rings. I pack everything back up into my bag and head upstairs to the floor of junior classes for homeroom. Walking through the halls I saw a familiar face, it was the young man from the metro this morning. He was climbing up the stairs to the floor for seniors with a stack of papers in his hands. "Hmm….I wondered where I saw him before, he must be a student here too." I say to myself as I reach my homeroom and sit in my assigned seat. I didn't have time to dwell on it as the bell for the start of homeroom rang. The classroom once filled with chatter quiets down as our teacher stands at the front of the room. One by one she calls attendance,
"Shelby Halls?"
"Here."
"Takara Thibault?"
Here."
"Kiko Matsu?"
"Here."
"Thomas Yeager?"
"Here."
The list went on when she finally called my name I was falling asleep.
"Kaoru Mochizuki?"
"Here," I reply same as the rest of the class. She moves on and continues to call the last of the names. One, in particular, seems to catch my attention.
"Yuu Himura?"
"....."
"Yuu-chan isn't back yet Blanchett-sensei." A student from the back row called out.
"That's right he had to give Rin-senpai…She cleared her throat....alright class you may take your seats now." The class shuffled to sit down just as the classroom door slid open.
"Sorry sensei for being late, I delivered the papers as you asked." I gasped as realization rang in my head. He's in my homeroom class! First from the metro, then from the hallway, now he's in my homeroom class! He has short black hair and bright green eyes, a silver earring dangles from his left ear. He shuffles over to his seat, dropping his bag beside his desk which sat two rows in front of my own.
"That's okay, we just finished attendance so your fine." Our homeroom teacher points out as she grabs a stack of papers from her desk. "We have a survey you need to complete for your college applications this coming semester." She starts handing out papers with our names printed at the top. "They need to be submitted by the end of the week and signed by your parents." A series of groans were heard across the room. The sound of papers being shuffled and the scratching of pencils. "After you fill these out you may leave to your next classes." I looked down at the paper before me and sigh. I guess I'll need to call mom and dad when I get home today. I fill in what I can and pack it into my bag. I pull out my homework and review it real quick before handing it to the teacher.
"Here, Mrs.B I finished the homework but I won't make it to class later today." I shift my weight from foot to foot as she takes the offered papers.
"Visiting your family this afternoon, Mochi-kun?" Sensei asked remorse in her voice.
"Yeah, it's Aki's anniversary and ma and pa wanted me to help with the candles," I answer, a sadness filling my heart.
"Just make sure to return the college form signed by the end of the week." Mrs.B reminded, before letting me leave for the next class. I climb the stairs to my advanced economics class, it was at the end of the senior hallway. One of my last-ditch efforts in finding a credit that would help me graduate faster. I didn't have any other choice than to get out of school as fast as I could so I could take in more part-time jobs. I stumble on the last step and fall face-first onto the floor. My bag spilled all over the floor. An audience of students surrounds me as I pick myself off the floor, collecting the strewn remnants of my bag. My face was flushed and I could feel the crowd of stares as I trudged down the hall to my designated classroom. "Well, that killed my pride," I muttered to myself not noticing someone calling after me.
"Senpai! Senpai, you forgot something! Ah, he's already gone." Green eyes look down in disappointment as the flushed student disappeared into the sea of students.
