Chapter 4 - Self-righteous advice

'I'm back to this hell' I thought.

Whenever I stand before this gate, I have a very hard time entering.

What other choices do have, I could have run away a long time if I had one.

I cleaned and adjusted the dirt on my clothes with my hand. I blushed through my hair with my hands down my face to look a little bit neat.

After which I decided to enter, I was panicked when I heard a voice of a woman complaining about something. What else can it be except my matters?

That voice belongs to our neighbor whom we call Mammy Ansah. She and her whole household always find a problem with whatever I do, Even if I don't, they will blame it on me.

" Mrs. Jackson, Why can't you disown that jinx and useless son of yours, the earlier the better before he put all of us in a big trouble one day"

Mammy Ansah said self-righteously as if she was giving the most priceless piece of advice.

"Mammy Ansah this is my house, please mind your language. So what if my son is a jinx, I believe one day he will become somebody great." said my mother.

In this house, my mother is the only person that will not go too far just to blame me at least not in front of outsiders.

My brother Derrick Jackson will always point towards me anytime there is a problem, which includes his also.

My father will either yell at me or flog me anytime he pleases.

As for my little sister Jessica Jackson *Jesse*, she never talks much.

Mammy Ansah was not able to hold her laugh when she held my mother mention the word 'somebody great' about me.

"Haah somebody great? Mrs. Jackson, You can keep dreaming. That son of yours can't even be my servant and you said, somebody what..." Mammy Ansah said while laughing.

I open the gate and enter, I can sense my mother's angry gaze on me. Mammy Ansah was still laughing, she pointed her fingers towards me

"Here comes your little great son"

'Why can't you keep quiet and leave me alone'

I curse her in my mind because I know my mother will be furious after that comment of hers.

My mother's anger rises after listening to what she said. Her face was with a mixture of emotions, anger, and a little love.

My mother gaze towards Mummy Ansah with the look of 'Is time for you to take your leave'

Mammy Ansah ceases her laughing and stares at my mother's face.

"It looks like you don't want to discipline your son in my presence."

"Please,"

my mum said pointing her hand toward the gate.

"..."

Mammy Ansah left while looking at me.

By the look of things I knew I'm about to take my beatings.

I quickly walk towards the porch when I heard my mothers voice with anger

"Stop right there"
