With long strides, Kai entered the Lockwood mansion.
From the outside it looked like a lavish palace situated in the secluded part of the Sylvester town, surrounded by the lush green hills and the lake which reflects the goddess Moon's presence in it but inside lived predators who kept their hearts on fire for five hundred years only for one purpose.
Revenge on Vampires!
Kai is the only exception to that.
His friendship with the vampire clan's boy Augustus infuriated many but no one could do anything against it.
Both held a bond that was unbreakable since their teenage years and that one incident that almost destroyed both families.
If given a chance, both of their families would hunt each other alive but only because of Kai-Augustus's friendship, it wasn't possible to do it in reality.
While humming a song and twirling the keys of the house on his index finger, he walked further. The rhythmic noise of his boots was quite audible.
He felt happy after meeting his closest friends.
One vampire, one human, and himself a wolf, the trio is unique and also their bond!
His huge frame of shadow followed him as he walked further but halted when the Omega of the pack crossed his way in a blink of an eye.
"Haish, why are you making so much noise?" A concerned expression on his sister Moon's face shows something has happened behind him.
Kai's eyebrows connected slightly but he was less bothered. He can guess what must have gone wrong.
"What noise? I'm going towards my room. Where are the others? All asleep?"
"Shhhh..talk low" she kept her finger on her mouth, gesturing her hand down while dragging him aside holding his elbow.
"If Alpha June gets to hear it then,"
"Have you had food? I have bought some for you and June"
"Why are you here? You should have stayed outside for tonight."
"Why?"
"Alpha's mood hasn't been well since the afternoon. You better be aware of that."
While she talked in a hushed tone, Kai chuckled carelessly.
"Don't laugh. Now you are here, I am damn sure he must have got to know" Moon looked around while whispering to him and shifted near to tell him something.
"He is quite angry with you. Don't you know he doesn't like your friendship with Augustus?"
Kai stilled his gaze at her. "And do you?"
Moon couldn't say anything about that as she became shy when it comes to Augustus. It was forbidden in her fate to like someone out of her clan but Augustus held a special place in her heart. Because of him, she knew there was someone who never saw her just as an Omega but more than that and it proved from that one kiss they had during the half-moon.
It was only about three seconds but they felt like an eternity. Moon would never forget it.
"Why would I? He is your friend" she tried to mask as she doesn't care about Augustus but deep down she is affected by even his name.
"Ahan! So he is only my friend and nothing for you?"
In an attempt to hide her blush, Moon shook her head.
Kai knew how much his sister liked Augustus. He knew what happened between them years ago and that gave him the chance to tease both of them. He wouldn't mind seeing them together as whoever his sister Moon will choose for her, he has no objection over it.
He smiled, patted her head, and took a step further when Moon came in his way.
"Wait, I have got an idea to save you from June. Let me help you with this. Just follow my lead"
And the Omega of the pack took the responsibility of leading Beta of the group towards his room.
Very carefully she scanned around and tiptoed ahead.
Kai followed her with a casual demeanour. His boots did make a sound again. Moon shushed him in warning to not make any sound and went further from hiding behind one pillar to another, to one wall. Kai took it as fun. Until Moon turned past the wall and bumped into someone's chest. When she looked up, rubbing her nose, saw June's serious face.
Moon gulped audibly as she saw the serious calm face of the Alpha, which was nothing but the calmness before the storm. Her gaze lowered.
"What are you doing here instead of being in the slavery house?" June demanded an answer.
Moon fiddled with her fingers. As the Omega of the pack, she had been given the duty of butchering slaved animals, separating their parts, and skin, and sending them to various departments.
She hated her job. But held accountable for being the weakest in the pack, Alpha June gave her this duty to make her strong-minded like others.
But it only affected her internally. Her hands started trembling again, palms became sweaty as she clasped them together under Alpha's gaze.
"Give that duty to someone else, let her do the kitchen work" Kai came forward in her support as he read her mind.
Alpha June was already enraged by his behaviour and glared at Moon.
"ARE YOU DEAF OMEGA MOON? DO AS I SAY!"
His sharp words flinched her.
She turned to go when Kai stopped her. He gestured to her to go into the kitchen, handing over the food packets.
Alpha June's fists clenched looking at Kai. First, he dares to be friends with their enemies then makes the other pack members disobey Alpha's command!
June angrily turned and went away.
Kai watched it but didn't react. After sending Moon to the kitchen, he walked further towards the drawing-room of Alpha.
He noticed Alpha June standing opposite the windows.
Kai decided to lighten his mood.
"I brought your favourite steaks. So when your anger will subside, just go down and Moon will serve you"
"My Luna loved the stakes. I have always hated its taste. But I eat them because I feel she is with me. Doing her favourites makes me feel that she is alive. But what do you do -" he turned to Kai. "Only makes me feel betrayed."
Kai didn't say anything. He watched June's heated gaze piercing him.
"Mixing with the enemies only makes you smell like them"
Kai knows what's going to happen further. June's lecture from over a hundred years ago is going to be broadcast again. Thus he turned to leave when June growled his name.
"KAI!"
With two long strides, June stood in front of him.
"Take this" he handed a silver-coated knife over him.
Kai looked at it then snapped his face up.
"Tonight either end yourself or that bloodnut"
Hearing such words only enraged Kai to the core. His fist over the knife's handle tightened.
"Because it's not easy to see your enemies living well when all they have done is destroy our family and what's difficult is to see your family member staining all those sacrifices with a shameful taint with those destructors. So it's better to kill or die"
"ENOUGH" Kai threw the knife in anger and its sharp point stuck on the wall.
The Beta and Alpha looked at each other fiercely.
"Not.a.word.against.Augustus!"
Kai's tone was low in front of Alpha but words held the heaviness of warning.
"His friendship means more to me. So let this be settled in your mind, nobody can come between Augustus and my friendship."
"He is just using you for your benefits. That bloodsucker knows nothing but manipulation!"
Alpha June tried his level best to make Kai understand.
"Ah!" Kai scoffed. "What is he going to get after manipulating me?"
"Revenge" June was quick to reply.
"Then he would have taken it till the date. No one waits for a hundred years for revenge. He would have done it back then when I wasn't even trained for being the Beta"
Kai defended best.
June stepped closer, matching Kai's fierce demeanour.
"Everything has its own right time"
Kai was less bothered by him but his anger wasn't tamed yet. Alpha June saw a firm Beta in front of him as he tried to make him understand.
"Every day brings new opportunities. Kill him before he kills you"
" I would kill for him but not kill him"
That shifted the anger to June. Meanwhile, the Moon reached their room.
"I BLOODY HATE TO HAVE SUCH TRAITOR IN MY PACK" he slammed his mobile phone on the floor. Moon flinched while holding the plate of food.
"Then throw me out of the pack"
June raised his hand to slap the Beta but halted in the air.
He resisted doing it and thus took it down.
Kai held no expression on his face as he watched Alpha June's anger.
"I see. That bloodnut has manipulated you for the better."
Kai didn't react to it. He turned on his feet and started walking away.
"You will regret it in the future. Mark my words" June yelled as Kai walked out of his sight.
Moon stood there holding the tray of food, witnessing their rageful conversation.
Kai has made it clear. He wasn't ready to leave his friendship for the sake of their family rivalry and that doesn't go well with June.
After a moment of silence, she entered the room and turned to go towards the chamber, when June stopped her. He took the tray from her hands and bluntly ordered her to leave. She followed his word and left the room. He followed the way towards the chamber, calmly closing the door, and went further. His eyes fell on her, lying calmly on the bed. He inched towards her holding everything inside his mind. Carefully he kept the tray on the table and sat near her feet, watching her gazing at the ceiling, without blinking her eyes as if they hold no life in them.
He gulped a thick load of emotions while looking at her in an immobile state. It broke his heart a lot of times to see someone he loves to eternity lying in an immobile state.
Half of his face appeared red while another half was in the dark, in the light of the lamp. He inched closer to her face, tenderly brushing off the golden locks on her face and staring at her pale skin. His eyes filled with agonized pearls and his jaw clenched tightly to prevent letting out his vulnerability.
He inhaled deeply.
For the love of his life, for the Luna of the pack, for the sake of his kids who sacrificed their lives, he is a ready breakthrough anything!
