So cold…
I can't breathe…
A young man could be seen slowly sinking, around him debris of what used to be an airplane, corpses of the passengers and the sharks that smelled the blood in the saltwater and came looking for prey.
Flickers of electricity and burning fuel lit up the dark and empty ocean enough to see the mangled body of that individual, because that's what it became, a corpse.
It… doesn't feel cold anymore… then why is it still dark? No, this isn't darkness, it just feels like there is nothing, a silent void.
[You have died, Welcome to purgatory, soul n°145674882369 your karma judgement will take place in a few minutes please wait.]
I… died ? This… is unexpected, I would have guessed that a bullet would be the end of me or that I could finally meet Truck-kun. And yet I died in a plane crash, if I remember the odds it should be around 0,0006%?
What did I do to deserve this?
Oh yeah, I kinda helped in a revolution…
I had a perfect life, no family, no friends, no job. Usually this isn't considered perfect or even remotely a "good" life but for me it was great.
I got kicked out of my orphanage when I was 12, lived my childhood as a beggar that could starve and die at any moment.
After a long time living as an outcast of society I happened to be in a homeless shelter when the embassy across the road was attacked by terrorists.
When these terrorists fled their attack they rushed through to the shelter and made a speech about wanting to liberate us from the oppressive regime.
Only when the sound of choppers were heard in the distance did the attackers flee.
What surprised me was that they didn't run out of the building in some escape vehicle but instead opened a locker and flicked a hidden switch which revealed something none of us, homeless people knew about this shelter, a hidden ladder leading to a hideout.
Before disappearing down the secret exit a recruitment speech was made, vividly describing why we were in such a helpless and unfair situation.
Some decided to join them to change their fate, some, like me, joined to fill their stomachs.
We were led through sewers, an abandoned steelworks and a pub to finally arrive at some kind of underground facility.
They then wanted to train us into becoming a member of the resistance to get rid of the evil politicians, you know, normal life.
But I honestly didn't care, I just tagged along because their food was pretty good.
The training didn't go very well, apparently I have shitty reflexes and a weak body.
So they kept on indoctrinating me about their honorable goal and taught me how to use computers.
More specifically, hacking, sounds cool right ? Like in that old James Bond movie that we watched in the orphanage right before they kicked me out. Nope, its so fucking long, lines upon lines of code that take hours to write and can become obsolete with a single mistake, that's the reality of hacking.
So with the knowledge that the terrorist or resistance IT guy taught and trained me in , I was able to make an AI that I called SAMUS to do my job for me. It took me a few years of programming, stealing and learning codes from informatic and security companies to create my partner. They called me a genius but I really just wanted to work less and keep my stomach full.
After some time of living this strange life I turned 17, the resistance wrecked the state and took control of it, using my talent a few times to make their takeover easier.
But I didn't really care, I left the country searching for a more peaceful one, those battles and political disputes were just too annoying.
So I hacked myself into pretty much everything thanks to SAM, no need for a job with infinite money that was generously donated by crooked politicians.
I also found something that made my life worth living, stories.
I got myself every mangas, novels and games before they were released, and don't worry, I still paid for them. What a blissful life, who needs friends when you can have waifus or husbandos?
Apparently engineering, biology and chemistry weren't that hard to learn. It took me four years to learn them to a nice level while spending most of my time reading novels, and while I may not be a super cringy protagonist that can learn anything in a second, I must say I am proud at my knowledge.
I recently found out that an anime convention was taking place in a country nearby, and since I rarely leave the comfort of my home and desk, I decided that going there for a while wouldn't be a problem.
So I booked a flight, took a taxi to the airport and entered the plane… I think you see how this ends.
[Soul n°145674882369 your karma judgement is starting, god ʍօʀɢǟռ ʄʀɛɛʍǟռ will be in charge of your fate.]
I suddenly found myself in a white room with two chairs and a desk. Sitting opposite to me is obviously-
"Morgan Freeman, yes. You mortals seem to always be surprised to see me, is my human form not godly enough ?"
"Sorry… I am not really used to dying... Why do you pretend to be human? I don't mean to be nosy, I just find it... peculiar." I said sarcastically, floating around in my wisp like appearance.
"Because being a god amongst men is fun. Playing the role of a friend only to end up being the imposter. Oh, but don't worry I do not have bad intentions towards humans, it's just a little pastime of mine."
"It's a weird hobby but I think I get it."
"Now let's get this over with, while you have caused much harm participating in a revolution that replaced a dictator with another tyrant, your programs, will be a great help to the future generations in shaping a more peaceful and happier world for you humans.
By the rule of the Galileo effect, your negative karma has been nullified and you are now deemed to have positive karma and get the chance to be reincarnated into a random world and obtain a random power.
I also get to mark your soul, give you a name as you humans say."
"Does that mean that I get to call you daddy ?"
"...Is this really the only question you have ?"
"Sorry for the bad joke… I'm kind of stressed out. " I excused myself apologetically.
"Nevermind..." He stops as a golden envellope falls onto his desk. Opening it gently and reading the piece of shining paper, Morgan Freeman steaks calmly, "Your power will be 'Fast travel', oh I haven't seen that one in a while... the way to use it... I'll let you figure it on your own."
"It sounds usefull... what about my future world?"
"Well... it seems that another god has created this world very recently by combining a few human stories and then some, I hate slackers that do this but oh well... You will have to discover the world yourself when you get there."
[Initiating soul transfer, have a nice trip.]
I feel myself disappearing and before completely vanishing hear "Make sure to do more than sitting behind a desk all day long in your next world, son. Your new name will be Matthew"
Ha, I don't care about not being hit by truck kun anymore hehe.
And now, the real story begins.
