I stood by the door as I watched the figure of my mother wear a coat and jacket to ward off the cold. She blew into her hands and as she opened the door, the chilly wind blowing her long brown hair. She narrowed her hazel eyes as she shivered before she turned to me.

"Alright, Sanjay. I'll bring you your favourite treats tonight, okay? Jasmine will be coming to look after you soon so be a good boy. I'll find time to go out with you on the weekend. I promise," she said.

I nodded with a slight smile.

"Yes, mom. You don't have to worry about taking me out. I know you're busy. I'll be fine on my own," I said.

I could see the look in my mother's eyes turn from hopeful to pitiful. She must have been worried about how I slowly accustomed myself to living without their care. Her motherly instinct seemed to be flaring incessantly, but she couldn't afford to put the brakes on her work.
