When the giant noticed its endurance decreasing, it threw away Luke's ax and then tried to chop him with his own weapon, but then a barrage of electric arrows slowed him down considerably. The others weren't just watching Luke fight. Despite that, Luke was forced to jump and dodge the enemy's strike. To make things even more difficult, the giant kept spinning its ax behind his back to prevent Luke from doing that again.

"I suppose he is scared of attacks like that," Luke thought and then began to run around the enemy.
