After their talk, Joseph took the plates downstairs. Before leaving he said he will sleep in his Aunt's room beside the Kitchen and warned them not to open the door if someone knocks on their door after he leaves. Nina agreed with a smile. They both send him off with good night greetings. Now they both have a good impression of him.
"It's so hard to hear that story, I feel sorry for that woman," Nina said.
"Sometimes men are so cruel,"
"Yes," Nina agreed too.
"Perhaps she's in love with him," Sylvia said.
"How can you love a man when he's hurting you?" Nina wondered. She's different from Sylvia and Lila. She did have a normal childhood, her stepmother is quite a woman but she didn't abuse her. Nina's life is so simple in her home, she never heard of sad stories, murders, and war. This is all new to her.
"It happens. The one who hurts you might have a deep affection for you," Sylvia said in her experience.
