Sylvia was directed to Maximus' room as they told her that he went upstairs. She could have asked someone else to take the soup to Maximus's room but she desired to go on her own. This is complete madness, she's lost her mind because she doesn't want to do anything with him anymore but what she's doing is contrary to what she'd decided. Her longing to talk to him or at least to hear his perspective for his silence is high on her mind.
He doesn't like others treating her as a maid in front of him that's the reason he created a scene down there. Sylvia felt that she'd hurt his feelings.
