Chapter 5 - "Heartless Royal Family"

When Jiang Ying Yue woke up she found herself alone in her room. She was feeling much better after her sleep. So, she wanted to take a walk around her room to lighten her mood a bit. Thinking this she got up from her bed and tidied her clothes before heading out for a short walk.

Outside the sky was about to turn dark. Birds could be seen flying up in the sky returning their home, and the light sweet smell of flowers permeated the air brought along by the cool evening breeze.

Jiang Ying Yue found this combination perfect for a walk. She was in a good mood. She started her walk from her courtyard and headed towards the main hall, then turned left and her feet subconsciously headed towards the main courtyard unknwoingly.

Along the way she found that their residence was quite big, it's just that it was made plainly without adding any aesthetic traits to the building structures. The mansion was comfortable enough to live but there was no beauty in it, it was just too plain and unsophisticated. If one looked carefully one can find unpolished edges and imperfections in every corner of the mansion, it appeared that the workers who worked on building the mansion completed the mansion in a hurry.

Jiang Ying Yue understood these people's mentality well. They must be saving as much time as possible building this mansion in a hurry to go for a round of cultivation after work. She found these people completely silly. Why were they working so hard to gain power and longevity? What was the use of living such a long boring life when they didn't even know how to enjoy their life?

No....wait, this sort of work shouldn't be done by ordinary folks, right? Then, what's up with this?

Jiang Ying Yue thought for a while but she couldn't remember the reason, so she just shook her head and continued to walk toward the courtyard.

When she reached outside the hall of her mother's courtyard she heard her mother and the servant girls speaking.

The topic they were discussing seemed to be quite serious looking at the tense atmosphere that prevailed in the hall.

She went closer trying to listen to what they were talking about. She heard her mother ordering the servants," Keep an eye on the eldest miss. Although she woke up from her coma she is still very weak at the moment."

The servant girls replied in unison," Yes, Madam."

Although Madam Jiang . was worried she tried to calm her emotions and nodded her head. After that, she dismissed all the servants asking Qiu and Niu to stay behind. They were the personal servants of her two daughters and both were very loyal and hardworking.

"You two take good care of both the misses. Don't let them go outside alone. Those heartless people from the royal family keep targeting us now and then, even the accident of Yue'er at the competition I find highly suspicious. I believe they were targeting my Yue'er from the very beginning." Madam Jiang was angered by the royal family's action.

These people were heartless. Her husband was fighting on the border to defend their kingdom and here the owner of the kingdom was looking for ways to kill his offspring.

Seeing their mistress's anger they thought something might have happened today when madam entered the palace. Their mistress had always been a reasonable person and she hardly flared up on anyone so there must be a reason for her anger. So, Qiu tried to ask her mistress," Madam, did anything happen today in the palace?"

Thinking about the incident madam Nangong gritted her teeth in anger. Suppressing her anger she narrated the incident," Huh! What else could happen? Those people are just so brazen that their brazenness cannot be expressed in mere words. When I entered the palace asking for an audience with the Emperor the eunuch said the emperor was busy in his study and asked me to wait for some time. I sat there for more than two hours finally when I got to meet the king he was reeking of alcohol. Only a fool would believe that the king was in the study the whole time. When I asked him to send a physician to our residence to treat my Yue'er he just blatantly made some lame excuses saying that all the imperial physicians were in closed-door cultivation and advised me not to waste my efforts on a crippled person who was going to remain at the bottom forever, dragging the whole family down." Madam Jiang felt anger rising in her chest just thinking about that damned emperor's filthy and condescending words.

How dared that damn emperor calls her daughter useless? Even though her daughter was crippled she was still her precious daughter, whom she would love and protect with her whole life. Even though he was an emperor, who gave him the right to criticize someone else's daughter, as her mother didn't find her daughter a burden how could someone label her daughter as a burden?

This was just too infuriating.

On hearing this both the servants were angry. How could the emperor behave this way, their master was at the border fighting the enemy and here instead of taking care of the general's family, the royal family was plotting against them, bullying them.

Were they not ashamed of their actions?

Did they not think about how would they answer when General Jiang returned and found his precious daughter lying on the bed?

They seem to forget that without many generations of generals from Jiang's mansion there would be no Burning Phoenix kingdom.

Now that their young miss could never cultivate who was going to take command over the general's army in the future and who was going to ensure the safety of the Burning Phoenix nation from the invaders? When the royal family was busy plotting against general Jiang they seemed to forget about this fact. Now only time could make them realize the blunder they had committed.

Jiang Ying Yue was quietly listening to all these and thought that the royal family seemed to be a home of fools. They didn't even realize what would benefit them in the long run and acted to gain short-term benefits.

And that paranoid emperor....he wasn't even worth mentioning

Only fools would act this way.

She turned on her heels and walked in the direction of her courtyard. With the setting sun, the temperature seemed to drop a bit. Jiang Ying Yue felt a bit cold and increased her pace.

Soon she reached her courtyard and entered her chamber to find a little girl sitting on the chair waiting for her patiently.
