Jasper sighed and ran a hand through his hair in agitation. How was he supposed to convince April that he wasn't a threat to her?
"I wasn't angry at you," he said firmly. "I could never be angry at you."
April let out a small, disbelieving snort. It filled him to the brim with frustration. She didn't believe him! Why was she so convinced that he had it out for her? Was it solely because of his job?
He hadn't given her many details…only that her father was in debt and she needed to be protected from the other people he owed money to. She had to have been aware of who her father was involved with beforehand and the dangers to be acting like this now.
How was she able to be so happy-go-lucky and optimistic about people if she knew what her father was truly like? That was a real mystery.
