Molly should have expected that her son wouldn't want to go to preschool. It was only a half-day program so he would be away from home for only three hours a day Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays but he didn't see it that way. He didn't want to go at all.
"Why do I have to? Don't you want to play with me, Mommy? Is this because of the baby? Is she replacing me?" Zachary demanded with tears in his eyes.
She sighed heavily before petting her son's head to calm him down. "No one could ever replace you, Zack! Of course I want to play with you but you need to play with kids your age too. It will be fun."
"It won't be fun at all. Being with Mommy is fun."
Molly looked at her husband beseechingly, begging him to do something with her eyes. He caught on immediately and ushered the boy away for a one-on-one talk. "Come here, Zack. Let's talk about this more."
