"Thanks for indulging her," Fletcher said once they were out of earshot.
Sadie's face burned. He had noticed her hesitation. "Sorry. I sort of froze for a second there."
"If it makes you feel any better, I highly doubt she noticed."
Actually, that did a little. "Thanks."
"I should be thanking you. You seem to be getting along well with everyone," Fletcher noted.
"Well, that was the only thing you asked of me so…"
"Fair enough. You sure you don't need anything before I go?"
"Nope."
"Alright then. Goodnight, Sadie."
"Goodnight."
Fletcher walked away, leaving Sadie more perplexed about the kind of man she had married than before. How could he kiss his surrogate little sister's forehead so tenderly after playing games all night and go off to do all sorts of villainous things? She really didn't get it.
