Dietrian was hated from the moment he was born. His name was proof enough of that. It meant 'abomination' in the language of the fairies because that was what he was. The unholy offspring of a fairy and a magician.
Fairies were pale with shimmering rainbow eyes and wings and their hair came in shades affiliated with nature. Green like the grass. Pink like sunset clouds. Blue like water. Magicians always had red eyes, whatever else they may look like. It was a sign of their magic.
Dietrian had been born to the daughter of the fairy chief. She had been very sick as she carried him, presumably because of the terrible amount of mixed magic he had within him, and died as she gave birth.
The first indication there was something wrong with him was that he didn't have wings or pointed ears. The second was when he opened his eyes and the left one was bloodred.
