Kreznik hadn't thought he would enjoy his forced retirement much but something changed after their outing to the zoo.
Sage asked him to play with her more often, which prevented him from having to sit around watching sports while she was awake. Once she was asleep, he and Lavender would play games, watch movies, or just talk. On the weekends, he went out with them instead of staying home alone every time.
Sage was satisfied, Lavender was more affectionate with him without waiting for him to make the first move, and he felt secure in his cover. It was more than that though. He was almost…happy.
Which was ridiculous. Kreznik hadn't been truly happy since he was back on his home world before the war.
It wasn't that Terra was anything like Reikar had been. It was more about the feeling he got. He felt at peace here and didn't have to work a dangerous high-stakes job just to survive. That was what he had really wanted out of retirement.
