Chapter 18 - Beyond Furious

Erevan was beyond furious. He hadn't been this angry about anything since the demon king betrayed him and left him for dead.

He knew something was wrong with that man! How dare he? How dare he betray poor innocent Molly whose only mistake was loving a scoundrel? He deserved to die for his crime but Erevan hadn't received specific orders to make it happen so he abstained with great effort.

He wasn't the only one ready to commit murder. Stella made multiple comments about how if she ever saw Calvin again, she would scratch his eyes out. Especially because nothing either of them did could get through to Molly for weeks after the fact.

She hardly ate or slept and spent most of her time crying or staring off into space. Getting through to her was practically impossible but that didn't mean they weren't going to try.

One day, she finally said something that Erevan took as a green light to go ahead with punishing the filthy traitor. "He's probably happy out there, isn't he? How is that fair? At the very least, he should be punished for trying to rob me but I don't have any proof."

Molly sighed in resignation before curling up into an even tighter ball and closing her eyes. That was what made him set his plan into motion. If he couldn't kill Calvin, at the very least he would respect his mistress's wishes and see he was punished in some way for what he did.

Erevan did quite a bit of research on what humans could potentially be imprisoned for before coming up with what to him seemed the bare minimum of revenge but would most likely still be seen as overkill from a human perspective.

It was a good thing he wasn't human. Their sense of morality didn't apply to him. If someone hurt his mistress, they had to be destroyed. Simple as that.

He wasn't known as the best strategist in the demon realm for nothing. This sort of plotting an individual's destruction wasn't quite the same as coming up with a battle plan involving more players but it didn't faze him.

All it took was three days and nights of researching everything there was to know about human crimes to figure it out. He grinned wickedly to himself as he shut Molly's laptop in the middle of the night. Calvin was going to wish Erevan had killed him by the time he was done.

The plan was simple enough to execute but involved a lot of components. He was going to get the man arrested for multiple charges so even if the prison time wasn't terribly long, his prospects would be ruined for life. Apparently, it was harder to find employment when humans had a criminal record.

The woman he betrayed Molly for would surely leave him to boot and he would still be stuck with child support payments. If he didn't pay those on time, he would face legal trouble for that too.

Erevan needed to make sure he had a large audience for his little show to get the greatest effect but, unfortunately, that would have to happen in the middle of the day. When he was supposed to be taking care of his mistress.

Before he set out, he made sure Molly was as taken care of as she could be before saying he was going grocery shopping. He knew this time of day should work for his plan because he had been watching Calvin's apartment for a week after doing his research. Knowing the enemy's habits was important to take them down neatly.

Around this time every day, the man came back from a run and took a shower. He was still job hunting so this was the only consistent thing about his schedule.

Erevan had to strike now because it was important to kick things off while Calvin was in the shower. The charges he aimed for were public indecency, illegal drug use and possession, and assaulting a police officer. Overall, that should result in quite a bit of jail time.

He started out by teleporting into the apartment in his demon form and manipulating his stealth magic so he was only visible/audible to his target. But first he planted bags of LSD in several different hiding places while the pregnant woman wasn't looking. She might not be able to see him but she would still see objects seemingly moving on their own and that would pose a problem.

His next step was attacking in the shower. Not truly attacking though because leaving any visible marks would make him seem less like a hallucination.

"Hello, Calvin," Erevan said with his most fearsome expression on.

The man let out a high-pitched scream and, in his desperation to escape from the shower, slipped and fell out of the tub tangled in the shower curtain. The woman came to see what was going on but thought he was going crazy since Erevan was invisible.

"Cal, what's wrong with you?"

"Get out of my way! There's a demon!" he shrieked as he pushed past her.

Erevan couldn't let him go hide in the bedroom or anything like that. The whole point of this was to get him to go outside. He floated over and around, blocking any exits but the front door and making vaguely threatening swiping motions with his claws though he had no intention of touching the man.

Calvin didn't know that though. He genuinely thought he was going to die so he ran for his life. A demon was infinitely faster than a human and there was nowhere for him to go so he ended up shrieking and trying to fend his "attacker" off with the first item he could grab. Which happened to be a broom someone had left on their front porch.

With extreme patience, Erevan manipulated the man into running down the street where it was more likely there would be witnesses. The shower curtain was still tightly wrapped around him at this point and that needed to change. Stepping on it to make it fall away while the man continued running was simple enough. Now there was enough grounds for a public indecency charge. A scandalized woman nearby ended up calling the police as Calvin continued shrieking and trying to fight off someone no one else could see.

This was where the fun part came in. The police arrived and Erevan hovered directly in front of an officer, allowing Calvin to swing at him before dodging at the last second so the broom hit the officer directly in the face.

That spurred his partner to pull his gun while the first officer tried to regain equilibrium enough to cuff him and stick him in the back of the squad car. All the while Calvin frantically protested that he hadn't meant to do it and had been trying to hit the demon.

Erevan couldn't resist cackling as he watched the scene unfold. This was going so much better than he expected!

He saw a couple of people filming the whole thing too. There was little doubt it would end up on the internet and Calvin would be even more of a laughingstock. Humans could find the strangest things amusing but right now that was working out in his favor.

He ended up joining the man in the back of the squad car, making him shriek desperately about being let out but that only reinforced the idea that he was crazy because the police couldn't see anything and no injury was occurring. That was a fun ride to the police station!

Erevan wasn't done yet though. Not even close. The whole time Calvin was being booked and interrogated, he was right there taunting him with his presence and making him seem even more unhinged.

The police ended up ordering a drug test that the demon easily tampered with. That gave the police grounds for a warrant to search his apartment where they would conveniently find the stash he had hidden away. That wouldn't necessarily be enough for a conviction though.

In case they ran the drug test again when Erevan wasn't around, he laced the water someone gave him with LSD so it would come back positive without further interference. Then he simply disposed of the evidence by taking the paper cup with him to vaporize later.

All this time he was careful not to let any floating objects be seen either by the humans or the security camera in the interrogation room. Everything had been accounted for.

With that taken care of, he was able to go to the grocery store so what he told Molly wouldn't be a lie. He did go out to get groceries, among other things. She simply didn't need to know about the other reason he left the house.

The plan went off without a hitch. He was rather satisfied with himself as he made his way around the grocery store as quickly as possible without being suspicious to the humans. That was what happened when you messed with demons and the ones under their protection.
