Oliver sighed and shuffled some papers. "Obviously I don't recommend lying under oath but this case would practically be open and shut if you were involved romantically. Only for the time being so it isn't a lie."
"…but we literally told the police we were friends," Ace said, looking at the lawyer like he was crazy.
"You haven't talked to them in a few weeks. Anything can happen."
"We've known each other for over a year! No one will buy that. This is a stupid idea."
"Make me the bad guy," Cora said suddenly. "I don't care. If they ask why we didn't get together sooner, I can say it's because I have hang-ups about relationships since my parents are divorced and my mom leaving made my dad go crazy. It's not a lie."
Oliver nodded his approval. "I can work with that."
Ace hadn't realized that was what happened. Divorces weren't terribly common unless people got married before they met their soulmate.
