Ace was so busy trying to think of what to say to trip Cora up that he didn't realize they had arrived back at her apartment building without saying a word to each other. He was an idiot.
He may have blown his chance here…but there were still those cookies. He had one more guaranteed time seeing her again and would have to figure it out before then for his own peace of mind.
He didn't want a relationship with Coral. He just wanted to know who she was and that she was doing okay because of how long they had been connected. There wasn't anything more to it. Her not wanting anything to do with him was for the best.
"To make things easier for you, can I come pick up those cookies instead of having you bring them to me?" Ace asked in resignation.
Cora bit her lip. "But that would inconvenience you. The whole point was for them to be a thank you for coming to get me so going out of your way again to get them would render it moot."
