Chapter 11 - Geniuses Unite

Viktor and Jayce glanced at each other, as if they were testing each other with their eyes.

Well, I guess they were because immediately afterwards, they each put on a false smile, speaking with concealed hostility that even I could detect.

"Well Viktor, it is quite rude to interrupt someone's conversation, don't you think?"

'You don't have the rights to do that' went unsaid.

"My apologies, I was rather rash in that regard."

'Do I look like someone who cares?' were the unspoken words from the unkempt genius.

"You only need to ask if you wish to join our conversation."

"I will do that next time.

The almost unconcealed hostility was starting to spread to other guests, but of course, the two geniuses noticed that and reined their emotions in.

I forgot that Jayce was quite cocky due to never facing a problem he couldn't solve in his life, and that his personality would naturally clash with Viktor, who had the same upbringing (but in Zaun), even being invited to the Piltover academy by a professor.

'Dipping now. See ya.'

I started to back off from the conversation, slowly but surely.

The two geniuses noticed me, of course, but ignored me in favor of their verbal bout.

I'm not getting between them today. I want to leave the ball with my life intact.

The moment I left them, people started approaching me.

"Hello! My name is..."

I was growing dizzy with the amount of people approaching me, and I looked to Jayce for help, but he was clearly too engrossed in his battle with Viktor.

I put on fake smiles and nodded along with everything they say, but I couldn't get away from them with no excuses.

When a bell was struck in the building, it was as if God sent his angels down to save me.

"With every ball, there must be a dance! Go on, everybody, find a partner!"

Even Viktor and Jayce were distracted with this announcement, and with that, their verbal bout came to an end, but another one started.

This time was a dancing contest.

Jayce approached Maria, placed one hand behind his back and extended the other one. "Will you do me the honor of a dance, my fair lady?"

"Of course."

Jayce took her hands and started doing simple dancing movements, and I noticed that with each movement, Jayce and Maria were signaling me to ask Ava for a dance, each for different reasons.

Jayce wanted to get all the aristocrats away from Ava, while Maria wanted to see me and Ava be a couple.

Regardless, I'll take it.

I approached Ava, shoving my way through a crowd of teenagers and young men asking for a dance, and stood before her.

I mimicked Jayce's gesture, placing one hand behind my back and extending one to Maria, and asked.

"Would you dance with me, Ava?"

She was surprised, but she took my hands with a smile.

That was the best night of my life.

...

When we went back to Jayce's castle, each of us went to our own rooms, and retired for the night.

Jayce and Ava walked together and Jayce asked, "How do you feel about him?"

"Who?"

'You know who I'm talking about.', but Jayce didn't say it out loud. Ava clearly was avoiding the topic.

When she opened the door to her room, she was illuminated by the light and Jayce spotted a faint blush on her cheeks.

One that mirrored Shaun's.

...

When I woke up in the morning, I went to the bathroom for a quick shower, and afterwards, brushed my teeth.

I walked out of the bathroom and on my way, spotted Jayce and Maria walking downstairs together, from the same direction - Jayce's room.

Oh. Very cool. I guess they did the deed at his house because they weren't allowed to do it at school, huh?

I could be wrong, but that was unlikely. Why? The expression on their face told it all. They were practically glowing and skipping down the stairs, even if that's slightly dangerous.

I decided not to join them on their walk to breakfast to let them enjoy each other's company for a little bit more.

I waited out of sight, waiting until they passed me and went down the stairs.

I counted to a solid 10 (Yes, I can count) seconds before walking down after them.

When I finally reached the dining room, food was on the table and everyone else was waiting for me.

I joined them at the table and picked up the buttered slices of bread waiting for me, and bit into it.

When I was eating my breakfast, I noticed that Maria had something on her.

More specifically her hand.

And to be even more specific, her ring finger.

On that very finger, the one that is the 4th finger starting from the thumb, was a ring.

A hextech diamond ring.

Sick. Now I know what happened yesterday now.

The two merely consummated early.

...

The rest of the weekend's at Jayce was boring, for a lack of better words.

We barely did anything after going to the ball. The only notable thing that we (Jayce and I) did was doing another experiment, one that did not yield any results.

I packed up to return to school with Jayce and Maria, and said goodbye to Ava when we left.

When we arrived at the school, we unpacked and headed to do our respective duties, with mine being attending class.

On Monday, I apparently have Mathematics. The subject which I have a love and hate relationship with.

Oh well, since I'm 15, I'd say that the difficulty should only be that of a gr. 10 back on Earth.

How hard could 10th grade math possibly be?

...

I lied when I said that the difficulty was of 10th grade math.

It was far more advanced, and some concepts that haven't been introduced on Earth were taught here because of the advancements in magic and technology.

I was barely able to keep up with the class, and that was because I asked "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named" for help.

He's going to make fun of me forever for not being able to do math.

I walked back to the dorm with a downtrodden face, asking myself what I did to deserve this.

When I arrived, a certain someone was sitting at the table.

Hint, it's not Jayce.
