Chapter 1 - A Peaceful Life in a New World

A/N: This is a complete rewrite of the previous version of this story. TTo any of my previous viewers, I'd recommend going back and reading the "Notice" Aux chapter. I plan on making this work vastly different from my previous ones.

.~.~.~.

"Alaster honey, can you dry the clothes for me?" A woman called out.

"Coming mom!" I replied as I threw my wooden sword over my shoulder and ran down the hill towards my home.

"Oh right, let's practice a bit," I spoke to myself as I jumped into the air and waved my hand and fingers.

Small sparkles of rainbow glistened as I did so and suddenly a small torrent of wind surrounded my feet. A cushion of air materialized under them as I began to quickly glide the rest of my way to the house. What would have taken me almost a minute of running only took four seconds as I more or less flew over to my mother who was waiting with her arms crossed and a small grin on her face.

"It seems like Nolla has taught you more magic while I wasn't looking." She said before smiling and ruffling my long white hair.

"Ah! Mom, you know I hate it when you do that." I complained as I stood still and took her affectionate rubdown. I wasn't exactly a fan of having to be pet like a dog but if I didn't allow my mother this indulgence then she'd go and start pouting which would be a pain to deal with.

"I know but no matter how big you grow, I'll always think of you as my little baby." She smiled before kissing me on the forehead and giving me small nudge towards the yard where the laundry was out to dry.

"Yeah, yeah, alright then." I said, a little embarrassed by this but worked my way towards the laundry.

I picked up the first shirt from the pile and stared at it for a while. 'It's been eight years huh?' I thought before smiling dumbly to myself and drying the clothes with a bit of household magic.

Eight years ago I had woken up in the body of a newborn in this other world. To be honest I was super excited at first. It was a world of swords and magic like the many manga, anime, and novels I'd read during my free time in my past life. Furthermore, it was a world with various different races and one I had a pretty good understanding of.

I had reincarnated into the world of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.

There weren't many anime/novels that I knew any better than that particular universe, however, I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get to meet some kind of Random Omnipotent Being (ROB) that would grant me wishes or anything like in fanfics. I was further disappointed that I seem to have reincarnated as a human with no special powers whatsoever.

My only saving grace was that I looked a lot like Merlin from the FATE franchise with my long flowing white hair tinged in violet and bright amethyst eyes. Judging by the fact that my father could be considered relatively attractive and my mother was beautiful as well, I could at least take some solace in the fact that I'd be a looker.

"Done mom," I said as I carried the wicker basket inside and plopped it down on the table.

"Good. Papa is going to be coming back later today so he can review your swordsmanship training like you were wanting, so don't go too far now." She said happily as she brought in a plate with some bread and a salad that we'd be having for lunch.

"Really? That'll be nice. I'm tired of having to just repeat the same Katas over and over again." I replied a bit tiredly as I tore off a piece of bread and bit into it. It was nice and fluffy and warmed my body as I ate it.

"Oh? You looked so manly when you were out there though... Kyaa! You reminded me of your father when he was younger! He wanted to become a soldier for the Empire so he'd always train all day every day!"

My mother cupped her cheeks and reddened in embarrassment before swinging her hips back and forth like a newlywed. I gave a small sigh as I saw this and smiled at her little antics. My mom and dad were ridiculously in love like their love was full power 24/7/365. They were like that stupid lovey-dovey couple in anime as they were constantly showering each other in their affection.

I knew that once she got like this she would be going for a while so I quickly finished my food in silence and got up from the table. "Thanks for the food mom! Love you bye!" I said as I hastily ran out of the door.

"Ah! Say hello to Evelyn for me!" My mother called out after me as I ran past the yard gate and towards the village center.

Though the village was small, with only a population of about 100 people, everyone was lively. Our town was a small and out-of-the-way rest-stop on a continental highway connecting the Empire of Soma and the Super Magic Empire. While we did see our fair share of traders passing through, they never stayed for long as the next town over was a major hub for the region and most merchants wanted to only rest here for the night before moving on. I did get my fair share of hellos from the kind villagers and the uncle that ran the town fruit stand tossed me an apple as I ran by.

I feel really bad every time he gives me something like this because, to be honest, I had forgotten his name so I called him uncle since I didn't want to embarrass myself by asking 'what's your name again?'

I quickly put that thought aside as I reached the other side of the village and my destination. It was a large oak tree standing several dozen meters tall. Inside of that tree was a small house, made by weaving the bark of the tree in such a way as to support the home between its branches. Of all the things in the world that I'd seen, this was probably the biggest smack in the face about fantasy elven culture.

I ran up the steps leading to the front door and opened it without reservation. "Nolla! Evelyn! I'm here for magic practice!" I yelled.

"Oy brat!" I heard a yell and side-stepped a large book soaring past me. "Knock before entering, what if I had been masturbating or something!?!" A young-looking woman said as she approached the door. She was a beautiful-looking elf woman with bright green eyes and dark red hair. She wore a red robe with gold embroidery over her body, however underneath it was nothing.

And I mean that as literally as possible. All she wore were a pair of lace panties. She would be the definition of erotic if It wasn't for the fact that she was a loli-

I ducked under a swing at my head from her wooden staff. "Hey, pervert sensei, what's that for?" I asked.

"You were thinking something rude just now right?" She replied with a smile but her eyes were not smiling at all.

"Ehhh? I'm surprised you could tell." I admitted as I dodged another strike attempt.

Our little comedy skit was interrupted by the patter of small footsteps that rapidly approached from the back of the house. Suddenly, a small elven girl with a round face, long white hair, and beautiful red eyes appeared in the doorway. This was Evelyn, my childhood friend and a student of Nolla.

"Ahhhh!!! Nolla-Sensei you can't go around looking like that! Especially not in front of Alaster!" the little beauty yelled exasperated.

"Eh? What's the matter? Alaster is going to marry me when he grows up anyway?" Nolla said teasingly.

"No means no!" She replied as she began to push Nolla into the backroom to get changed.

"Boo~ Evelyn your so mean to your godmother," Nolla complained.

Evelyn looked at me with pleading eyes. "Please tell her that what you said before was just a joke! She'll go back to normal then!"

"Ghee-" I recoiled a bit at the sudden cuteness and looked away. "I'm afraid I can't do that Evelyn... I'm definitely going to have a harem so..."

"Mo!" Evelyn pouted and stormed out.

I shrugged my shoulders and walked inside, making sure to take off my shoes and leave them by the door. I walked into the back room study and picked up one of the books I had last been reading during yesterday's lesson. It was on the fundamentals of magic as well as a list of household magic spells.

These spells were extremely useful for two reasons. Firstly they helped a lot around the house with chores which is why they were called household magic, and second, they helped to train fledgling mages on how to control their internal magic power, or for non-majin, how to control the magicules in the air to perform magic spells.

I began to read as I listed to Nolla get lectured on morals by her own student and presumably getting dressed into something more appropriate for magic lessons. After a few minutes, Nolla and Evelyn both joined me. Evelyn was still pouty and not looking me in the eyes so I made sure to give her lots of headpats. I could always tame Evelyn with headpats. She started smiling happily and giggling a bit with a blush on her face.

"Hah~"

Nolla sighed and rolled her eyes at our little makeup session before getting started on her lesson for the day. It was another peaceful day in my life reincarnated into another fantasy world.
