Chapter 29 - Battle of Cir (8)

Brig. Gen. Damien Renzellern Drissian Right Flank.

I hold the reins in my fingers as I take a deep breath. The smell of dirt, the smell of smoke pervading the air. I take it all in one breath as I close my eyes, my heart beating like a drum.

The time has arrived for me to etch my name in this war. The time to create accomplishments, the time to show my men that I fight with them.

I need this. I need to do this. With another breath, my barrier shimmers like glass. My eyes open as I rode to the cavalry before me.

"Everyone! Ready your weapons, ready your horses, and ready your hearts. For today we ride!" I raise my saber up, the men shouting in response as I turn, magic gathering at my throat.

"Fifth Cavalry! Charge!" With that shout, I grip the reins of my horse, then thundered through the forests, arriving at the field before me.

One choking in smoke and dust.

With it inside, I rode further and faster. The men behind me following my every move, slicing up stragglers as they arrive, dying by our saber as we pierce through the smoke.

Minutes pass by as we ride through the indiscernible darkness, only led by the sun above our heads, until something left me uneasy. I squash the thought down, leading the men through the shouts and gunfire.

"Enemy cavalry!" A shout then erupts in front of us. My eyes narrow at the sound, only to see an infantry regiment left with their bayonets unequipped.

A malicious smirk enters my lips as I raise my saber with a shout. "Run them down!"

The men roar in response as they smash against the Osterian lines. The men left panicked and unequipped were slaughtered, their shouts of pain echoing in my ears as I trample them to death.

My saber bloody as I relentlessly slash through the carnage, bullets aimed at my throat ricocheting back in response as we pierce through the line.

Riding relentlessly through the smoke, arriving at our goal, arriving at the unimaginable treasures awaiting us. Thousands of mages, exhausted, with no escape, each one bearing a ring.

And without men to support them, all they could do was cower.

"Kill them all!" I shout, my golden eyes illuminated as I pierce through the smoke. My saber raised as a thousand cavalry rides behind me.

And with such a sight, they give out their all, fireballs appearing above them, numbering to a thousand, ready to kill all my men.

A fact I cannot allow, and so, magic rips towards my body, redirecting it myself into my saber as I ready myself for another miracle.

"Fire!" With such a shout, I unleash it all.

Winds exploding from my saber as it slashes against it all, the sound deafening as screams of shock and awe erupt around me and for a moment, I felt the world in my hands as I command a thousand fireballs to vanish.

And now, the once intimidating sight turns into one of utter domination. My eyes stuck on their forms as my saber shine from the sun before slashing down upon them.

And with it are the men, roaring at the at the bloody sight as they slash against their lines like butter, butchering their way through their screams, looting as I stood there, watching it all.

"Loot every crysm! Loot any valuables, we take out their bombardment, then we finish up their lines!" I shout through the chaos, the man responding in guttural shouts as their blood-thirst takes over.

"Hall." I spoke, a hand over my chest.

Hall quickly riding to my side, "Is there something you need of me?"

"Take command for a while, will you?" I hold my chest as the magic drains from my system, the familiar pain exploding in my chest as falter. "It'll be a while till I can recover."

Hall opens his mouth to answer, only for another to speak so that all my plans vanish.

It took mere minutes for all my plan disappear like smoke. The victory on my fingers slipping as a soldier spoke beside me, "Sir, Five thousand heavy cavalry are arriving at our position."

Hall widens his eyes, "What!? There were no sightings before!"

"Yes, sir! But they're riding through the forest! Their numbers are at the thousands. They seem to have been waiting there the entire time."

Hall glances at my slumped form, both our minds a whirlwind of thought before I spoke up, my voice firm. "Have the men finish looting, have them ready. I'll buy us some time."

Hall grabs my shoulder, "But sir, you no longer have the strength to."

"I am aware, but as things stand, this war will not finish here if I don't do this." I take a deep breath, magic flooding my veins as I disembark. Hall just standing there, shocked and confused as I walk forward the advancing cavalry, hand on the grass.

Feeling the earth on my hand as I drown myself in its magic, its power screaming inside me as I wrest against its control, replacing it all with my will as I spoke. "Hall, as a last order, make sure to bring me back to my headquarters."

"Sir? What do you mean?" He stills, feeling what I feel.

Choking on his words as an insurmountable amount of magic congregates in my direction, the world around me changing as I gather all the strength I could muster.

My skin reddening in heat, my blood pumping through my chest, my eyes illuminating as the earth beneath me bends to my will, every inching step echoing in my mind as I tore the earth asunder.

I grab the earth beneath my feet and pull. The world around me shuddering in response as I tore it asunder, spikes of earth appearing before them, every spike, piercing through their horse.

As I pull once more, raising it up higher, and higher and higher, only to feel something drip on my hand, my eyes filled with nothing but red as I fell.

"Finish this."
