Chapter 37 - Do you remember? 13.3

Most of the cities at night are desert. Outside the city is the same as the wilderness. The street at night goes for the same rule. Even though my steps leave marks on the ground, who would be there to see them?

It was a small city. Some thugs were hiding in the dark, waiting for someone stupid enough to walk at night. The 'street', which looks more like a dirt road, has simple wooden houses on both sides. Some of the houses had candlelights inside.

Well, enough chitchat. My target was someone else. I could feel, even more now, the life force from my prey. In the distance, a stone house with a flag above the portico. Probably the mayor's house. (This guy's life force is something else! What is he? An apostle?)

With three long jumps, I erase the distance between me and the building. There are five guards in shiny armor patrolling it. (Four humans and... one beastman?) It is unusual for a nonhuman to be armed with weapons of any type, and this beastman was even in armor.

I slowly walk to where the beastman was. I couldn't see what specie he was, but I can see that he has animal ears coming out of his helmet. The ears are brown. (A dog specie or domestic wolf... Probably?) It looks like a dog-ear to me.

I get closer to him, and more or less ten feet away, he starts sniffing. It didn't take even a second for him to react. "Who goes there!?" He draws his sword and sniffs violently. (Too close. Let me play with him a little~)

My invisibility spell is flawless against non-magic users, and even magic users have a tough time detecting it. I walk in circles around him, just for him to move in circles too. After a while, he finally stop. "What is this? Show yourself!" He slashes the air.

I giggle and poke his helmet. He jumps in surprise. "A ghost?!" He runs as if his life depends on it. The other guards finally notice him, but as soon as he yells 'ghost', they also run. I deactivate the invisibility spell.

My body starts to form again. "You want to come with me?" I say it to someone special, that isn't in my field of view. "I pass it. I'll just watch from the distance. If you can, please don't kill all of them." I grin and shudder. "Why would you care? Because I don't~" I hear her sigh coming from the dark. (Free pass... What a joyful night.)

I walk to the entrance of the house and knock on the door. "Coming!" A woman's voice comes from the inside. Before she could open the door, I cast an illusion spell on my face. My elf ears turn into humans, and my purple eyes become green. My V-shaped birthmark also disappears.

A fat maid opens the door. "How can I help you, sir?" She had black hair, white skin, and brown eyes. "You can't, at least not in the way you think~" With my right hand, I cover her mouth, and with my left hand, I stab her heart with my bare hands.

Blood, a lot of it. I enjoy each milliliter of it. Each drop of it carries her life flow, the thing that keeps me alive. Her eyes met mine, and they had confusion and terror. "Shhh... It will end soon." It took me two minutes to drink her life force.

I drop her lifeless and bloodless body to the ground. My lips were red from the blood. I spread my mana threads to every corner of the house. I sense seventeen life cores. And one of them was my target. A purple core, just like mine.

(An apostle, in the middle of nowhere. He is not aware of the power he carries, or he is just dumb... Or, he is so clever that he chooses to ignore the 'gift from the heavens'. At any rate, his divinity will be mine until the end of the night~"
