Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Solace Institute of Magic

[The following day]

Location: Solace Institute of Magic [Morning]

"Hm... So this is the Solace Institute of Magic. It's quite impressive," I said.

The city itself is also very impressive, too. The people here are of different races and come from neighboring countries. It seems that all of that talk about Isera becoming more tolerant of other races is true, huh.

...However, the capital is supposed to keep up appearances. Who knows what sort of diabolical schemes are happening away from the public eye.

Location: Reception desk

"Good morning. I am here to apply for the teaching position," I said.

"...Another one? *sigh* Alright. Please wait in line like everyone else. The interviews will begin shortly," she said.

Just... why are there so many!? Surely the interviewers aren't really going to go through all of these people... right?

[Two hours later]

"Applicant #174, the interviewers are ready for you. This way, please," said the staff member.

Finally! Now that it's my turn, all of the pieces are in place.

Location: Interview room

"Greetings. I am Issac Mavis... and this here is Barton, my fellow instructor," said Issac.

"Hahaha! Look at you, acting all dignified! You almost got me there, you tree fucker!" said Barton mockingly.

"YOU BRAIN DEAD PIECE OF SHIT!! WANT TO GET TAUGHT ANOTHER LESSON, HUH!?" said Issac furiously.

Excellent. It's a good thing I had Ruelle create fake documents of my identity. I also had the liberty of asking her to find out the interviewers for this year's assessment.

To my left is Issac Mavis. An elf that specializes in elemental wind magic. His proficiency in the field compared to his peers is outstanding. And to my right, Barton Rogner. Although his magic skills are subpar compared to the other instructors, his skill with the sword is impressive. He teaches a course for individuals who strive to become magic swordsmen.

Haha! It's almost a good thing these two don't like each other.

"...Ahem! Apologies for our disgraceful behavior. We looked over the information you provided us and found you to be an outstanding candidate for this position. As a priest of the Celestia church, it can give our students an opportunity to learn from someone with a varying perspective. However...," said Issac.

"Is there a problem?" I responded.

"Can you prove to us that you are a member of the corresponding church? Other churches have special artifacts given to their members as proof of their affiliation, yet I sense none on you?" said Issac.

Damn it! ...I was so focused on getting here that I forgot all about the letter of recommendation! How could I be so careless!?

π˜’π˜―π˜°π˜€π˜¬! π˜’π˜―π˜°π˜€π˜¬! π˜’π˜―π˜°π˜€π˜¬!

"Sir, a butler of the Weiss family, along with a knight, is here to see you," said the staff member.

"Send them in," said Issac.

"*Bows* Good morning. I am William, a butler of the Weiss Household. And this is sir Edward, Lady Kassandra's personal knight," said William.

"I see, but what brings you here? Is there something that the Weiss family needs from the Institution?" asked Issac.

"Oh, nothing of the sort! We are here to deliver a letter of recommendation for that young man right there," said William.

"It is good to see you again, mister Lucius. I hope we made it in time!" said Edward.

"I-I see. And is there any proof of who he says he is?" asked Issac.

"Of course! Not only did he use his light elemental magic to manifest magical constructs, but he also saved my life using a high-healing spell called 'Regeneration'," said Edward.

"'Regeneration', you say!? I recall that 'regeneration' is a spell only high-level mages use; usually when someone is on the verge of death," said Issac.

"Haha! What the hell are you worrying about? In my eyes, this guy's perfect! ...And the Weiss family is vouching for him, so why the hell not?" said Barton.

"*sigh* Alright. I suppose you are correct," said Issac.

𝘚𝘩𝘒𝘬𝘦! 𝘚𝘩𝘒𝘬𝘦!

"Haha! Good, good! All we need to do now is get you your uniform and identification emblem," said Barton.

"Identification emblem?" I asked.

"Every department has a unique emblem given to it's instructors. ...It helps us as and students identify the instructors based on the curriculum they teach," said Issac.

"The orientation will be held tomorrow morning; don't be late!" said Barton.

[Later that day]

Location: Cat Tail Inn

"So this is the Institute's uniform? Hm... It's very well made..." I murmured.

The coat is covered with three-layered barriers, and the emblem itself has magic amplification. Whoever made these are very skilled... Well, I guess I should try it on.

π˜™π˜Άπ˜΄π˜΅π˜π˜¦! π˜™π˜Άπ˜΄π˜΅π˜π˜¦!

There, that should do it. Not only is it very comfortable, but the design is also very sleek. The brown coat and black pants do make it easy for someone to identify the school.

"Ruelle, are you there?" I called.

"Yes, master Lucius," she replied.

"Were you able to find any useful information...?" I asked.

"It is as you predicted, master. Underneath the surface, the capital is an infestation of criminal activity and debauchery. The people, especially those of other races, are being discriminated against behind the scenes. And anyone who questions it will be 'disposed' of in secret..." she explained.

I knew it... It was all a lie. There was never such a thing as a perfect world. ...But why? What was the purpose of freeing me...?

Oh... I see now...

"A verdict has been decided..." I said.

"What is it, master...?" she asked.

"After all these years, the parasites of society have controlled the world. They use the excuse of peace and unity to steal, pillage, and destroy. But not anymore... I shall be the monster that the shadows fear... I will be the one to steer humanity back on course. And anyone who stands in my way... will die!" I proclaimed.

The people must be saved from those with the most power; I've dedicated my entire life to protecting these people, but all they've done is bicker amongst themselves.

Now that it's come to this... I'll have to take things into my own hands.

[The next day]

Location: Orientation Hall

"Hey, over here!" Yelled Barton.

"Hello there, Mr. Lucius..." said Issac.

"Good morning to you both," I replied.

...For now, I'll play the role of a teacher and gain popularity among the students. In order to do that, I need support from other members of the staff. Sooner or later, this school will be in the palm of my hands.
