Chereads / The Scarlet Luna / Chapter 71 - Rebirth Part B

Chapter 71 - Rebirth Part B

Brendon's POV:

I took the trails

into the forst

to the boarders of

Lamia's territory.

My

only

thoughts

focused

on

saving

Vivienne.

She's my whole world now. There's nothing I want better then to find her alive still and save the day. I want to kiss her over and over and tell her I love her to the moon and back. Because, that's how far I'd go for her. I would go there all nine lives and come back to see her beautiful face. And our future children. And their future children.

'I'm coming, Vivienne... I'm coming. Just wait a little longer.'

I knew she couldn't hear me but I decided to talk to myself. To keep from the thoughts of loosing Steele to talk to.

I would have kept marching forward but the forest seemed to move in front of me before I could reach the borders. I instantly caught a glimpse of wolves in the distance. I hid quickly under the shelter of a heavy brush. I decided to keep quiet if I was going to get away with this. I thought.... at first it was rogues controlled by Lamia. But, my own pack's scents and many more familiar ones came through the brush to hit my nose. I watched their familiar colors rush past me. Heading north. There were so many of them but I was able to distinguish they were Everfur Howlers, Blacktail Growlers, and my own pack. Together, they were now one.

I was going to jump out and announce I was there... but to them I knew I was dead. I didn't want to delay them so I let them go. I waited as I hoped to find Vivienne amongst them but she didn't appear.

Aaragorn.

He did take her to Lamia.

I waited until the coast was clear before I pushed out from under the brush and took off running into the territory. I could hear vehicles moving in the distance like they were going after the wolves fleeing.

They'll be okay.

There's nothing I can do. They'll have to get away on their own. I need to find Vivienne. That's what I'm here for anyway.

My mind was back on track as I raced towards the coven's town. I kept running as my mind was still stuck on my pack members.

They're heading north. It was for the best. In the northern territory a royal lycan lives. If they ask of him, he will come down from his city of gold and bring bloodshed to Lamia. Something that bitch desperately needs. She wants war? He will bring it to her.

"Help!" I heard someone call out. I came to a thundering hault as I snuck up on what I was hearing. Someone noticed I had come up on them and they were calling for my help. But, when I approached and got through the clearing I saw him.

'Aaragorn.'

I growled angrily as I saw him stuck in a bear trap. He was whimpering in pain. His body full of cuts from a thorn patch. He looked out at me and didn't recognize me as he got excited.

"Oh good! Come here and help me get out of this thing," he insisted. I trasformed into my human form. The excitment on his face faded to confusion. "B-but you're supposed to be dead!" He yelled. "I KILLED YOU!" He growled as he chuckled. "I'm hallucinated," he concluded.

"No," I told him. "You did killed me. But, I came back so I could find Vivienne... Now... What did you do with my mate?" I questioned. I growled as I circled him. I could tell the trap was set with wolfbane. It would be better not to touch him... I'll just leave him here to die. But, I have to know where Vivienne is. He should know.

"I don't know man," he said as he whimpered. "Are you going to kill me?"

"I think you're doing a pretty good job there."

"Are you going to help me?"

"Where is Vivienne?"

"I-I swear I don't know. I threw her out in the town square."

"What town square?" I asked.

"The coven has a town square. Follow the scents to the cobblestone paths and go from there. When you get to the center, you'll be there."

I trasformed back into a wolf as I started back on my path to find my mate. I could hear him whimpering as he struggled to get free.

A terrible feeling hit my gut.

Like... I was too late.

Something happened to her.

I just know it.

I followed the path when I reached it. The cobblestones were old and molded from the weather. But, the closer to town's center I got the cleaner the streets appeared. It was very old. But, the shops had updated glass and neon lights. I couldn't understand half the language on the signs. I did recognize one, Lycanthrope.

But, the rest were hard to make out. I reached the town square. At least I figured it was. There was a podium. The streets were tainted with blood. Corpses scattered the ground. I trasformed back into my human form. There was a burning car not far away from me. I walked through the square as I tried to make out Vivienne's scent from the rest of the death and rot laying at my feet.

Vivienne...

Where are you?

I walked past a few dead ones before I caught the distinguishing scent of heavy metal. I recognized the scent once before from the man who sliced my chest open. You don't forget a scent like that. I felt a shiver run down my spine. But, mixed with his scent I found her pure one.

Vivienne smelled like pure happiness to me. A scent I picked up on not by her actual emotions but because that's how I felt when I smelled it. Vivienne's scent was in distress. I could tell she was unstable. But, their scents danced together and I knew he was carrying her somewhere.

I followed the scent until it took me to a hotel. There, I went inside cautiously. There was nobody around for miles. I knew this because the air was lacking fresh scents. Nobody had been by for some time. I was able to move through the hotel and took an elevator. It took me a second to figure out which floor they got off on. I felt stupid as I hit every number and found myself stepping off on the pint house's level. I should have guessed.

It opened up to a lavish apartment's sitting room. The theme of red and black tones across a victorian styled living space. I could smell Lamia's old scent. And, I could tell this was her own special place. There across the room I saw Vivienne. She was thrown out against the floor. A ceramic tea set broke. I could smell Wolfsbane soaked into the wood and I knew... she had been poisoned.

Her hand had braced her neck. Probably coughed until she couldn't breath anymore. It was in the tea. She drunk poisoned tea. I took to her side with speed I forgot I had.

I pulled her up into my arms as I felt tears forcing their way down my cheek. But, I wasn't sad. I was happy because I found her. And, in good faith I believed... she would come back to me. I rolled her over in my arms and had her face me as I looked over her pale face. I'll have to find a way to get the wolfsbane out of her system...

"Vivienne," I whispered to her.

"I'm here my love... I'm here."

I put my fingers up to her neck and felt for a pulse. She was something I could only hope for. Now that I got her.... what if she never comes back alive? What if I live nine lives without her?

"I promise... If you come back to me... you will be far away from here. I will take you far away... and we will live peacfully. We will have no worries... and our children will have no worries. Our grandchildren will have none. And, one day they will forget all about us... But, we will have each other." I told her sweetly.

Just

Come

Back.

It might have been my own pulse... but in my fingers I felt life. I felt hope. I felt beauty. I felt passion. I felt desires.

"Let's get you out of here," I whispered to her.

I will never let any harm come to her.

Not again.

The promising hope of her maybe being alive...

was enough to push us out of that room.

I'd take her to the northern territories. There we could seek medical answers. I will find her a doctor. I will cure her. I will get the wolfbane out of her system before she passes all nine lives.

I could see the close future. Hear her sweet laugh. Smell her sweet scent. Touch her smile with my lips.

Later... I would see Eder once more and many familiar faces. I would see Niall. Malakai and Cole would be there too. My sister would be in charge there. The Lycan King will promise protection. I would see the city built on a great skyscraper. I would discover the great unknown of the norther territory. I would see the packs who had suffered here make their debute into a massive society. And, I would see the day Lamia died from her own ruin.

But, today...

I just have today with Vivienne.
