Chereads / The Scarlet Luna / Chapter 67 - Protectors

Chapter 67 - Protectors

Continuing Brendon's POV:

A monitor's noise started up as it was forced on. And, the familiar sounds of a heart monitor hit my ears. It was familiar- from when I heard Vivienne's moving. Or, Innath's. I felt a force of air push into my lungs and I opened my eyes. I was stuck under a white sheet. My body was numb. I couldn't move it just yet.

What happened to me?

Where am I?

Where's Vivienne?

"VIVIENNE?" I yelled and heard my voice echo through the empty room. I smelled the air and remembered where I was. Why am I still in Blacktail Growler's territory?? And, where is everyone? Why isn't Vivienne next to me? I sat up quickly and yanked the sheet off of me. I ran my hand over my chest as I felt for any wounds. I was healed. I was fine. I am breathing. My feet hit the floor as I moved too fast. I yanked off the monitors and the IV piercing my skin. I spun around the room before walking towards the door. I pushed through and looked down the hall. "HELLO?" I called out. I felt furious.

This is no way to treat an alpha!

I started off down the hall to look for people.

What is up with this pack?

How long have I been asleep?

I didn't see anyone as I wondered down the halls. I didn't find anyone. I tracked my way into the den- the pit I was last awake in. I glanced around and vampire corpses still littering the floor. I walked past them and went up the cave's hill. I felt an urge to keep moving and leave here.

'Steele?' I wondered.

What the fuck is going on?

I found my way through the halls and into the ground floor. I recognized the patterns as the cave turned into a wonderful architecture. It was built in as a fancy ball-room style. Marble and dark colors monoing the halls.

I was looking for a way out. Until I stumbled across a floor- to ceiling mirror. My eyes locked onto what was in the reflection...

And it came back to me.

The conversations I was left with came back like a flash floor. The whole otherside's world I had lived in for the last couple of hours.

And the last thing I found out?

I could remember like I was there...

"I need your blessings, do I have them?"

My question seemed to echo. There I stood beside Fang. We had just finished finding Atlas, Blacktail, and Scarlet. I had just seen Atlas' undeserving death. I had just agreed to take Lamia's life no matter what. I will hunt her down to the ends of the earth. I will- The world darkening around us. Fang took us back to the dark territories of The Moon Goddess. As the world changed, I noticed Luna's bright light coming towards us. As if she knew he'd come back with me now.

"Of course you do," Fang told me. "I will give you my blessing. The moon goddess will now grant them to you."

Luna, appeared as soon as she was mentioned. Her glow overpowering Fang's. They were both giving off a powerful light. I shielded my eyes by turning away. They were too much together.

"You blessed the child?" The moon goddess asked Fang.

"I think he's ready. He will not let you down," Fang assured her.

"Very well... I should tell him then."

Their light seemed to dim and I was able to see them together now. Fang was grooming Luna's head and behind her ear. I almost felt weirded about by it. I was confused as I watched them.

"What's this?" I asked.

"There's something we'd like to tell you," Fang told me. This felt like parents explaining something to a child.

"Vivienne is my daughter," The moon Goddess told me. "So I would like for you to protect her... but also understand-"

"Vivienne has been blessed since birth."

"And, if we bless you..."

"We expect you to live all your lives..."

"Loving and devoting them to her."

"Even if that means killing Lamia."

"I will," I promised them together. "Vivienne is very special to me and I want her to be my luna forever." The moon goddess' tail began to shake. She was happy to hear me.

"Please take good care of my daughter," she told me. "You'll have trouble remembering this at first when you wake up. So, I will leave you hints in mirrors. You won't have Steele to guide you anymore. It'll be lonely at first... but I hope you'll remember the promise you made here with us."

The light coming off of them became bright.

In fact I was surrounded in light. I had to shut my eyes as I felt like I was transforming. I wasn't in my wolf form... I felt weightless.

Niall's POV:

I've never been in Eder's bed chambers before. But, his scent was all over the doorway when I reached his hall. Lamia's scent was faint here. Like she's been here only once in the whole existence of her life. This must be from the time she came to kill him. But, She never really killed him.

I pushed through the doorway. Facinated by the sight of his bedroom. From the satin bedding on a platformed waterbed to the tropical fish tank walling his room. This was creative- stylish. Eder's room was fit for a king.

My eyed adjusted to the black lights as I searched for Eder's body. There was barely light in the room. Eder's conditions prevented him from walking in the day. He had a sun allergy... like the rumors of most vampires... He would burn in light.

Eder was sitting in front of a burned out fireplace. He was very much dead in appearances. But, his face was flawless. His skin looked well rested.

There was a cup of tea spilt out on the floor. I could almost imagine him move to look at me now. Welcome me over. I walked up and smelled the tea in the tea pot.

"So she poisoned you," I noted. The foul scent of animal blood mixed with the scent of root I couldn't place. I could smell a warning scent to it. Not to drink it. Maybe because now it was old... I knelt down in front of him. "Would you quit cowering?" I asked softly.

"You should awaken and take back what is rightfully yours. You could hang her for treason... and make it up to the packs." I touched his freezing cold hand. I held it in mine. "We need a hero." I looked over the blood stains on his mouth. He had been coughing before his death. He really was poisoned.

"Somewhere in your mind you must know how to stop her," I whispered. I looked at my wrist. This is for the good of my people... I eyed my finger down. My family. For my family.

I sighed and squeezed my eyes shut. "I'll die a wolf," I muttered. "And, have hell to pay for my life." I bit down into my finger hard until I tasted my own blood. I yanked away to see the wound I opened up. I pushed my finger into Eder's mouth to smear my blood over his poisoned tongue. "I hope this heals you... I know it won't taste good," I told him.

Lamia will be here as soon as she smells this.

I pulled my finger out and was surprised to find it healed. There was still a small amount of pain present. Eder must be somehow awake inside there... Maybe my blood will help him find his way back to the surface.

"Listen up you coward... Lamia will kill me... And, my sister will be next. So wake up and save her."

My voice filled the quiet room as I expected to hear a reply back from him. Of course not. He's dead.

If he is to come back... Then I can't let Lamia suspect what I'm really doing here. I decided to act fast. I checked Eder's pockets to find a blade. A small pocket knife. Three inchest long maybe... I pushed it up towards his neck and waited for Lamia to come.

Lamia's scent picked up before I could hear her. I could sense her outside the door. She walked in. Still drenched in blood... But, she was healed.

"I thought I smelled your blood but I didn't think you'd come here," Lamia said in anger. She watched me carefully as I threatened to cut into Eder's neck.

"You poisoned him instead of killing him?" I asked her as I kept my eyes firmly on hers. I didn't want to look away from them. I can't let her see my weak spot. All I ever wanted was a chance in her world. But, there's no spots avaible in her world. It's all for Eder. ALL of it is reserved for him.

If it wasn't for Vivienne coming here... and catching his eyes I might have had a chance. But, Lamia now believes we all have to die. Espeically if I'm standing in her way of killing my sister. I once could have been an exception on her list. But, now I'm nothing to her.

"Sometimes you do things to people you love... because its for their best interest."

"Yeah! You poisoned him!" I shouted.

"So what?" She placed her hands on her hips. "You're about to slice his throat. How is ME poisoning him a problem?"

"It's a problem because I thought you'd pick me over him. But, you had no intentions in the first place of picking me, did you?" I accused.

"I'm not sorry Niall."

"I know."

"I said I'm not sorry for never loving you. Niall! You're unworthy."

"Is it because of my bloodline?" I wanted to know... what seperates me from Eder? Is it only my bloodline? "If I wasn't a werewolf... if i wasn't a Fang decendent... If I wasn't... would you love me? Would you have picked me over him?"

"No," she mumbled. "I suppose not," she said as she seemed to think it over. "He's got everything I want."

"Because you can't have it?" I dared.

"Eder," she tsked out as she started towards me. She lowered her eyes into a glare. "Listen to me..." Lamia was over by me in a second. Her hand gripping my wrist as she forced a fracture. My hand spazed out and I dropped the knife. Her other hand snatched my neck and started to squeeze until I choked and couldn't gasp for air. "I was going to wait until I finished everything I started out to do with you... then I was going to give you a quick death... But, lately you've been on my nerves... About your dramatic want to save your family from my ambitions." She loosened her grip on my neck just a little. I could breath. I gasped and fought for air.

So this whole time really was an act? I always knew... But to think... she planned to kill me afterwards? "I left my son for you," I growled.

"You didn't leave him for me. You left him for a new life I could give you. Face it, Niall... You came here not because of me but because I opened up a whole new world to you. I broke your werewolf curse. Once you came here- after your first time across the borders... You realized there was more then just playing guard to an unworthy pack."

Her words cut my heart. As I listened to them I knew she was right... I lost my spirit guide a long time ago. I wanted to leave the pack the moment I was cursed to be Lilith's mate. She tied me down... and Lamia released me.

"You don't have to do this," I whispered to Lamia. Surely I had become at least a friend to her since knowing her. "You don't have to kill us. You could spare my family."

"What's the fun in that?" Lamia asked as she tightened her grip on my neck. "Don't think for a second you meant anything to me. In fact... you are nothing. You could never be anything other then a dumb dog. And, your faith will have you dead and circling the plains of the moon's dark side for centuries. You will die a rogue. A cast away. A mut. Your family will not come to see you. Your family does not love you. The moon goddess surely has spoken mean words about your afterlife. You know what awaits for someone like you in death. You'll never be allowed to see anyone important to you. You will have it worst. Your family hates you." She smirked. "Redemption doesn't exist for bad boys."

"You will have a lonely ending."

Lamia's hand clenched. I could feel my spine break as she crushed my neck. I felt darkness wrapping around me as I looked her in the eyes. She stared back at me with no mercy... No expressions written across her face. But, in her eyes... a glimmer of enjoyment.

"Your sister's death will be worse then yours," she mouthed to me.
