Chereads / The Scarlet Luna / Chapter 52 - Fallen Soldier

Chapter 52 - Fallen Soldier

Niall's POV:

"They did good out there," I heard Lamia's sweet voice say as I entered her private room. "The numbers of deaths were high for the wolves..." She chuckled. "And, I didn't even send the whole army." She tossed a report onto the table beside her. I looked towards Andrew who was carefully rubbing her feet down with lotion. I smirked as I picked up a cup of tea and took a sip.

"They really did," I agreed. We sat in her room in front of the fire place. Andrew redesigned the room to have a coffee table and a set of Victorian chairs facing each other.

"Oh, how is your brother doing?" Lamia asked me and gave me a concerning look. "I overheard Meynard went a little-"

"Lamia," I interrupted. "He killed Cal," I growled in irritation. She gasped in surprise.

"What? I'm so sorry!" She laughed out. Her humor sometimes... I kept a frown on my face to tell her I was upset. She settled down the minute she understood how I was feeling. "I really would never allow something like that," she promised me and snatched my hand holding the cup. "You believe me, don't you?" I put on a small smile.

"It wasn't your doing... Meynard was in the act."

"I could punish him for you," she suggested. "How do you want him to suffer? He can't die.... but I can make his life miserable."

"No.... I don't seek revenge..." I sighed. Meynard might be old but he doesn't have any common sense. He doesn't have emotions so how could he possibly feel pain? Revenge is useless. "But in return for loosing a brother... you have to do you best to make sure Cole lives," I told her sternly. "Will you donate your blood to a good cause?"

"Of course," Lamia told me quickly. "Anything to make you feel better. Your unhappiness puts a damper on my parade. You know this is supposed to be my happy time."

"I really appreciate it," I told her and smiled sweetly. "I'm sure your fledgling Emmett would have appreciated knowing his lover was being well taken care of too after his passing."

"Mhhhh.... I think so to."

Lamia took her hand away from me to pick back up the report.

"Darling," she called out and looked my way. "I do have something important for you to do." She looked at her feet suddenly. "Go away, Andrew." Andrew stood up quickly and left us. As soon as he was gone it was confirmed to me she didn't want him to overhear. "Will you take care of the two Knowles knights?"

"But, aren't they some of the best knights you have?" I asked in small confusion. Even though it was clear when I lost my brother... they were not working for Lamia. She later informed me they weren't of her doing. They're working for someone other then her. Possibly the wolves... No wonder she wants me to take care of them. "You're right... we better cut them off now," I muttered under my breath.

"Exactly." She looked me in the eyes. "When you see them again, do not hesitate to kill them." I nodded and smirked at her. She cleared her throat. "And, for our next attack we will go straight to the heart of Scarlet Nightwalkers. Before their Luna can return, preferably."

"Their best warriors are still in Blacktail," I noted. She was a great war strategist. She got them out of their territory with a distraction. She hit both side packs and will strike their weak. This will stir them to come to us directly. They will die... they will all die or be cattle.

"Yes, I know. I told Meynard to head straight to Scarlet Nightwalkers. But, don't be noticed."

"What's the next move after that?"

"Well... we let the rest come to us." She laughed then. "It's like a fly being lured in by the fly trap. When they're here they won't be able to escape."

"I made blueprints of the factories and where I want to put them in each territory," I told her in pure bliss. "I'll send them to you when I have them laminated."

"I'd love to see them," she purred as she leaned in over the table.

A knock came from the door that interrupted us. I felt startled.

"Madam, as requested we have brought you that wolf you spoke of."

Lamia jumped out of her chair at the news and rushed to the door. Her feet slipping as they were freshly oiled. She slid into the door and opened it. I could smell her excitement.

"Where is he?" She barked. I stood up and picked up her shoes for her.

"We placed him in the dungeon."

"You brought him alive?" She asked expectedly.

"As asked."

"Which territory did you find him in?"

"Blacktail."

"Blacktail? Why was he there?" She asked in confusion.

"Recruiting," I muttered a reminder to her.

"Oh that's right," she muttered in understanding. "Well lead the way," she suggested in excitement.

"Your shoes," I reminded her as I grabbed her arm to stop her from going into the run-down halls. I put her red stilettoes on, making sure to fasten them tight. Lamia was completely mine... now. She got rid of Eder and now she gets a refreshing vengeance on the wolves that reminded her of the one thing she couldn't have... the experience of a loyal mate. I will be that for her.

Unlike Eder.

I will give my full heart to Lamia.

I will die for her.

We walked down to the dungeon. It was a tunnel system beneath the castle. Also, where a lot of vampires nested- the ones that couldn't live in the sun.

So the smell beneath the castle was worst of all.

It's nothing compared to the rotten wood in the upstairs of the castle. This was a sewage smell. Rat carcasses littered the floor along with unrecognizable bones. Corpses from where vampires fed off one another and were left to die. Down here it was a hell pit. It was even hot- not sure how. I wanted to be a vampire.... so I couldn't smell.

We entered a hall with rusted doors. I could smell them lathered in wolfsbane. There were several guards in station down here. Not that there needed to be one. If you escaped from the cell... you would most likely end up as a corpse after getting lost down here. The pesty blood suckers living down here ate anything with a heart beat.

"I'm so excited," Lamia whispered to me as we stopped in front of our destination. "I haven't seen this bastard in years."

I wish I could say the same.

Lamia opened the door in a hurry. She walked through first and I followed. They had Fang chained to a wall. Dangling by his ankles upside down. He was tore up. Like he put up a fight. They beat him until he turned human. Until he couldn't bare to be in wolf form any longer. He looked towards us as we entered. He narrowed his eyes when he saw us.

"There's the bastard who dipped on their family," Fang snapped. I growled quietly. But... I will let Lamia have this one.

"I'm not here to explain myself," I told him as I leaned up against the wall. I wanted to see the show in the front row. "I'm here to watch."

"Yeah, so keep your eyes on me," Lamia snapped as she walked up and punched him in his crotch. "You're supposed to stay dead!" She shouted as he screamed. "How many times do I have to tell you to roll over and die? You've gotten in my way for the last time, Raoul Fang."

"You leave the wolves alone!" Fang shouted. "They have a right to live in their territories!"

"You think just because you come back to life and beg me to stop, I will?" Lamia growled out. "This isn't about my hatred for you or your kind.... I want that land and I want those bodies as slaves. I will end your bloodline," Lamia growled out as she lowered over his body.

"Lamia," I mumbled.

"Not you," she promised me. "You can live," she promised sweetly my way but then sharpened her fangs as she was back to targetting Fang. "I'm going to send you straight to doggy hell!"

"We don't have hell," I muttered. "We have something worst."

"Then that's where I'll send you. Now, shut up, sweetheart," she shouted over her shoulder. "You're going somewhere worse," Lamia snapped at Fang. "Your descendent, Vivienne's heart will be mine..." She trailed off.

Does Lamia hate my siblings because we're decedents of Fang?

She doesn't hate me though...

She loves me.

Right?

No... I'm sure she hates me too. But, I will ensure my own survival. I made her like me just enough to keep her in need of me. I roped my life into her factories and markets. She will never find someone as skilled as I am at being a contractor and skilled post leader to her Nighshade auction houses.

"You leave my family out of our fight," Fang growled out. "They're not the ones that pissed you off."

"No but Vivienne sure has been itching under my skin. She reminds me so much of you..." Oh... Wow... Fang has been naked this whole time. My eyes landed on Lamia's hands as she touched his lower stomach with her long sharp nails. She scraped down to the lower chest cabinet. I watched as she pushed her nails forward.

Fang let out a high screeched scream. I threw my head back in shock and covered my ears. I watched as she continued until her fingertips hit his wound. She pulled her nails out and plunged her fingers into the wound. His scream echoed inside the room. Blood covered the ground in a splat as she ripped into him. She pulled her hand out- taking a chunk of him. I leaned forward and held back a gag. My inner wolf whimpered. I pushed him back immediately. Now is not the time to come forward, little guy. You'll whiteness a murder. I turned away as I ran from the room. I choked on the air as I forced thoughts back.

Thoughts about... how... that could very well be me in there.

I closed my eyes tight as I tried to push it back.

No... I'm Lamia's lover now.

She wouldn't kill me.

I'm her good boy.

I'm loyal to her.

"You ran out," I heard her call from the door in disappointment. "You didn't see me take his heart out. I felt my head hit the wall as I fell into it. I squeezed my eyes shut as I calmed my breathing.

"I'm just freaking out a little," I muttered.

"Must be that wolf of yours," she said as she walked up and took my arm. "I would never hurt you," she promised as she pulled my head into a kiss.

I wish I could believe that.

I wish I raised baby Lowell in a safe world. But, not in the one I'm building him now.

If only... there wasn't a vampire queen out to kill my bloodline.
