After submitting her papers Mantisha headed towards the canteen. Their University's canteen is quite popular. Even if there were a lot of restaurants and cafes on that area, students still prefer to go to the canteen for their lunch. Thus, everytime she appeared there, a large number of students were always dining in and it was really hard for someone to find a place.
Mantisha sighed after arriving there. It was packed again. She still roamed around a little to find a place but could not.
Suddenly she felt something pounced on her back and she jumped on fright.
"Holly s**t! Judy!" Mantisha patted her chest as she puffed her cheeks.
Judy bared her teeth, "It feels so good to scare you darling."
Mantisha rolled her eyes in annoyance. The she suddenly scoffed, " Hey, I need to..."
"Wait wait wait. Before you start spilling your beans, I hope you to remember that today our departmental has arranged a farewell party for our seniors, and this time YOU HAVE PROMISED to go with us."
"D*mn!" Another curse left from her voice.
Judy got immediately frustrated. "What is it Tish, don't tell me you forgot! You did not attend any of our gatherings throughout these one and a half years. If you don't go this time, I would not talk to you anymore."
Mantisha bit her lips, she did forget about this gathering. For last few days, all she thought were her papers, which she just submitted, and tomorrow's banquet. She even planned to buy a dress this time to attend tomorrow's event. She just got her salary from the library yesterday along with the monthly allowance from her father. So she could only buy today.
Though Adi wanted to give her one but she strongly declined. How could she expect her mother's new husband to buy an expensive dress for her, a step-daughter! They just got married, and all she wanted was her mother to be happy.
Mantisha is still worried about the dress and the party etiquettes that she leaned. Every time she thought of stepping infront of that many upper class people, who would see to her with their judgemental eyes, her stomach started to churn.
But she did not have a choice anyway. She could not let her polite and shy mother to go to such a place alone. What would happen if she gets bullied, who knows!
Mantisha smiled embarrassingly, "No I didn't forget honey, I just need to do something more important. So..."
Judy rolled her eyes so hard that her eyeballs almost flipped. This girl would not change, would she!
"I don't know anything else, either you would come on your nown will or I will you drag you out there. Understand?" Judy said in a domineering tone.
"Okay my aunt, my godmother, my benefactor, my baby, I will go. But you have to help me first."
Judy furrowed her brows as she mentioned this. This girl is sure upto something. For a few days she seemed disturbed. But she refused to tell her anything.
Actually Judy had a vague idea that her life waa going through some changes. She had come here with her mother. Their professor loved her a lot, not only for she was a bright student with a good prospect but also for she was polite, friendly, loving, caring, daring, aggressive for her rights. She always helped others who were in need, stood up for the innocents. For her sunny personality, she was liked by everybody.
She had told her that her mother suffered a lot for her, and stayed into a long twenty four years of torturous, and unsuccessful marriage. But after coming here, she met with her first love. As they reconciled, Mantisha made her mother convinced to marry that man. She desparately wanted her mother to be happy this time. She wanted her mother to live for her own this time without thinking for anyone. She told her that they moved into her stepdad's and she was too worried to let her mother face her current in laws and some 'clan' alone, which she could not understand. This girl, they were not being bullied in their new home, right?
Judy's anger rose just by thinking of it. "You... Are you being bullied on your new home, Tish?" She almost rolled her sleeves to fight then and there.
"Gosh! What are you thinking Jud!" Mantisha laughed out loud.
"Then what?" Judy narrowed her eyes.
Mantisha's eyes dimmed off suddenly, which were left unnoticed by Judy. Maintaining a smile that barely could be called charming Mantisha said, "There is a party tomorrow, many important people is going to come there. I don't know much about this kind of parties. Help me to find a suitable yet affordable dress."
