Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Strange Classmates

Suddenly, a tall blonde girl in high-heels came rushing over to Dan.

"Danny boy! I missed you!" She said, kissing his cheek.

I looked at her in disgust.

"Danny? Dan do you know her?" I asked.

"Yeah. She's my girlfriend" He replied.

He pulled her off himself and came over to me.

"Shes a singing land siren" He whispered.

"Oh...who's this....darling?" She looked down at me, forcing a smile. "You must be Dans... friend. Wouldn't you like to come swimming with me this evening? Girls bonding time!"

"Wouldn't you like to get your head chopped off with a sword?" I replied.

"HEY HEY HEY. GIRLS. NO. STOP." Aiden forced himself between us, pushing us away from each other.

Dan jumped on to us both. "Nobody is killing nobody! We're in this same boat together, and Melody, you wouldn't stand a chance against her!" He said, pointing at me.

"Ugh. I could crush this weakling...human" Melody sighed.

"Except she's not human" Aiden replied.

Melody's eyes widened a bit. "What is she then? A witch or another siren? Or a werewolf?" Melody gasped and looked at Aiden, "Shes a part of your pack isn't she? Shes your girlfriend isnt she? Oh- I'm so sorry Aiden-"

"NO" Dan interrupted, " She's a gaurdian"

She looked back at me and her jaw dropped to the floor.

"No. No no." Melody screeched "NOBODY IS BETTER THAN ME!"

"RAGH!" She screamed, lunging at me, her fingers turning into claws.

I barely dodged her attack as her hand hit the wall behind me. Her eyes was now a glowing yellow and her skin pale, with pastel blue scales at the tips of her limbs.

She slid back and lunged at me again. I grabbed her hands at the right moment and pushed her back with my right knee.

Dan grabbed her and pulled her into a classroom that she was near and shut the door.

Aiden grabbed me and pulled me into another classroom. It was pitch dark before he flicked the switch and the fluorescent lights slowly turned on with a radiating buzz.

The room looked like a tiny storage room complete with mops and brooms leaned up against the wall. He put his hand on my shoulder and his finger to my lips whispering "Shhhh".

"Theres teachers here and humans", he continued.

I turned my head to the right and nodded.

He let his arms up off of my shoulders and backed up.

He twisted the door knob, with no success.

"What?" He said

He twisted it this time again, more aggressively, yet with no prevail.

He banged on the door with his bare fist and screamed loudly. "HEY!" He screamed "WE'RE LOCKED IN HERE".

"Dan? Aidyn?" He asked.

The door knob started twisting open itself from the other side and opened.

It opened to a girl with medium-lengthed lavender hair, and dark purple eyes glaring at us.

"Ummmm...." She looked at us "I dont wanna know.."

I blushed deeply.

"No! No! It's not like that!" I screeched.

I looked over at Aiden who was like a tomato.

I headed for the door, ready to walk out.

The young girl sat down and pulled her legs to her chest.

"Ummmm....you okay?" I asked.

She nodded and continued to stare at the floor. I raised my eyebrow at her and Aiden left. "What do you want?", she responded.

"Why are you...in here? Staying?" I continued.

She looked me dead in the eyes and I felt a chill go down my spine. I gave her a weird look back and went down and grabbed her wrist to raise her up off her knees.

"What...What are you?" I asked.

"What?!" She screamed. "A human? Like...what do you mean? Gender? I'm a girl."

"No you're not"

"Yes I am."

"I sense things" I said "You are not human"

Her eyes widened and she looked up at me.

"What? Well your 'sense' is wrong, I am more human than any human in this building," she yanked her wrists from my grip and walked out.

I heard the screeching of shoes in the halls as Aiden approached me back in the closet.

"You coming or not?" He asked.

"Oh! Oh...yeah" I replied. I went up to him and walked beside him following the hallway.

"Aiden! What are you doing?" Some boy that looked similar to Aiden in the hall screamed.

"I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING APOLLO" Aiden replied.

"Not yet" the other boy remarked.

"This is Daisy, Apollo." Aiden said.

I gave an awkward smile and waved at him.

"Nice to meet you Daisy, I'm Apollo" Apollo replied.

"Daisy" I said. I realised that Aiden already said my name, and I became embarassed.

"That's my brother, Daisy!" Aiden said, excitedly.

"Oh.." I replied. So that was why they looked so familiar.

"Welp I'm late again...Catcha later" Apollo said, jogging away, "AIDEN DONT DO ANYTHING STUPID"

Aiden rolled his eyes and grabbed my wrist.

"We're late too!" He exclaimed at Apollo.

"Aiden stop!" I said, as he dragged me through the halls unwillingly.

"That girl...something about her" He whispered.

"What? You got a crush on her or something?" I asked.

"Cute. No. She just seems like trouble...or worse" He replied.

What?

Suddenly the world around me turned black. I've been here before. Earlier today.

I wandered around. It was peaceful. I could see myself even when everything else around me was pitch black with ink.

My pin transformed once again, my cloak that I had once wore covering my back in a bouquet of black feathers, had now became a gown.

I bent down to touch the watery ink on the ground and scooped some up in my hands. It slowly poured out the edge of my hands and dripped back onto the floor.

I placed my hands back in it facing my palms and lifted my hands back up. Ink formed small bird like figures in my palms.

The ink flapped with their wing-like appendages as they slowly ascended from my hands.

They flew around effortlessly despite their form, and circled around my head like a halo of dark ink.

What were these things? Were they on my side? I plucked a feather from the back of my cloak and held it up to the creatures. One of them picked it and took it with its beak, disappearing back into the group.

I held my arm up and tried to catch one to no avail. Then I lifted my finger up sideways in the air for them to perch. The one with the feather still in its beak perched on the small bit of my finger and tilted its head around to look at me.

Its species was unidentifiable for the ink covering it.

I snapped back to reality, where I was still holding the bird, but in my arms.

Aiden looked down at me.

"A bird?" He said.

I looked down at the bird and back up at him.

"I...dont know...what it is..." I whispered.

"I think it...well..RESEMBLES a crow.." Aiden replied.

The bird cawed lightly.

The birds form sunk back into ink and into a plague mask.

"The whole costume" Aiden smiled.

I hesitantly put the mask on.

Nothing. I felt nothing. Nothing happened.

"Well" I said.

"That was very anticlimactic" Aiden replied.

I put the mask in my backpack and looked back up at Aiden.

"Uh. Let's head to class I guess" I said, pointing my thumb backwards.

"Wrong way" he smirked.

"Oh."

We walked to class where I saw many new faces as I entered through the door.

"Introduce yourself" The woman in the front said with a stern look.

"Uhm." I replied, walking up to the front, grasping the straps on my backpack, "Daisy. 14. Just moved here."

All my classmates gave me weird looks and began whispering with each other.

I started biting my lip nervously.

"SHHHHHH!" The teacher screamed from behind me, trying to hush my classmates.

It was me she scared instead, as I jumped forward and the whole class burst out in a roar of laughter.

The teacher looked like she had enough, and stood up tall in front of me, facing the class, holding her finger to her lip in silence. The class quieted down and into a complete silence.

"That seat in the back. I'm Ms. Brooke" The teacher replied to me.

I nodded and smiled at her, but it didn't phase the cold, hard look on her face.

As I started to walk to the back of one of the aisles, I realised I knew some of these people.

"Hey Dan!" I whispered.

Dan looked up at me and smiled.

Aiden was there too, in the seat that would be to my left.

To Dan's right, Melody. The one who tried to fight me earlier.

She looked at me in disgust and rolled her eyes, facing away from me as she flipped her long hair and hit Dan directly in the face. Dan blinked, stunned for a second.

I plopped my backpack down under my seat and got my pencil out to begin working.

I noticed the teacher looked younger than she should have. Usually it's the old people that is grumpy and mad. She had light brown hair with a red tint under the lights and pastel green eyes filtered under the square glasses she wore. Her name seemed to fit her appearance, but not her personality.

Brooks are like small little streams, quiet and peaceful flows of water. She was very loud, but seemed to seek out silence, and was anything but peaceful when it came to finding it.
