Chereads / Her Alpha Mate's Brother / Chapter 5 - TALK OF MATES

Chapter 5 - TALK OF MATES

I knew my father would never mind me maxing out my card. Our family was too rich for me to spend all of our money on one shopping trip, but it didn't mean I was happy spending so much.

By the time we were done, Sage, Ashley, and I had gone through all of the shops in the mall and my driver had to do several trips home before he could finally pick us up.

Yup, that's how much clothes, shoes, and bags we had bought, it was enough to fill my car twice!

"Dad is going to kill me!" I hissed as we made our way to the main driveway of the mall where my driver would pick us up.

"You guys are loaded, you can afford all of this." Ashley tells me with a laugh.

At least now she is in a much better mood, no more sulking and feeling bad for herself. She finally decided that she and Merrick would tell our parents about their relationship, and honestly it made me happy.

I really hoped that she and Merrick were mates, but they wouldn't know for a few more years.

I look at Sage, I remember how much she had to go through.

She was in love, or at least she thought she was. She had met an older boy at school, rugged, handsome, a fighter, everything Sage wanted.

They dated for years, she even gave her V Card to him on one steamy night.

She told us she didn't care because she was sure that they would end up being mates.

Come graduation, he told her that he was going to university in New York. They would have to start a long distance relationship.

Yes, we wolves use the internet and technology, don't be too surprised.

Sage was more than happy to let him, in her own words, she wouldn't be the right woman for him if she held him back.

Seeing as he was a few years older, they would have to wait to find out if they were mates, so we simply assumed that when he came back from university they would find out they were mates.

But that's the thing, the moon goddess loves to throw us curve balls. Just as Sage thought she met the man that should be hers, he finds his mate.

On his twentieth birthday, he and a few of his university friends decided to go on a vacation.

Sage was confident that he wouldn't meet anyone new or someone who might be his mate instead of hers.

They had been dating for years and they seemed to be the perfect match for one another. He calmed the raging storm that was Sage and she complimented him perfectly.

So one that night, when he suddenly called, we were all together having a sleepover.

Sage suddenly dropped the phone, and the girl that I had always seen as strong was suddenly on the ground, crying as she clutched her chest.

They might not have been mates, but she loved him with all her heart. It was a different kind of hurt, not one like when your mate rejects you, but a great pain too.

We later found out that he had met her before leaving on the trip. And the trip was all a lie, he wasn't out with friends, he was with her.

Before his twentieth birthday, he cheated on Sage, and when he turned twenty he discovered that the woman he cheated on Sage with was actually his mate.

"What's up with you?" Ashley asks as she gives me a curious look.

"What do you mean?" I ask her.

"Well you seem lost, like you are deep in thought." Sage points out. "Are you thinking about your mate?"

"Yeah." I lie.

"Don't worry, I'm sure he'll be the right person, the moon goddess never makes mistakes." Sage says with a nod.

'She never does.' Ares whispers in my head. 'Imaging if Sage and that cheater were actually mates, I'd feel bad for Sage. She deserves a man better than that.'

'You're right.' I tell Ares.

"So do you think there is a chance that your mate will be one of the unmated alphas tonight?" Ashley asks me with a sly grin.

I couldn't help but laugh. Did I want my mate to be one of them?

"It's not impossible." I tell Ashley.

"I doubt it is." Sage tells us as she shakes her head.

"Why not? The most powerful alphas will be there tonight. Why can't one of them be her mate?" Ashley asks.

"Because if it is one of them, Amaya will need to give up her place as the next alpha of the Shadows Pack." Sage says in a grim tone.

"It was never mine to begin with." I point out. "It's Merrick's title, not mine. I'm a daughter, daughters cannot be future alphas."

"It has happened." Sage said with a knowing smile as we made our way to the mall entrance to leave.
