It was lunch and I walked over and sat with Haminaro.
"Hey, can I stay at your place tonight?", i said it bluntly
"Why not stay over at your friend's house?", she used her chopsticks to point at Hiro
"He has family coming over", I said , making sure she couldn't tell its a lie.
"I guess you could use our guest bedroom", she didn't seem fazed by my intrusion
"Thanks a million", i shook her hand and it felt callised as if she had been working for a long time. Later that day when school ended i walked to her house with her, when we arrived her dad was drunk as shit and opened the door sloppily.
"WH-What areee you doing...wh-with my Daughter?", he was out of shape and i could see he wasn't wearing his belt. Every word he said was cut off by a loud burp. He continued to drink and told his daughter to get in the house and clean his mess. I walked inside and saw that the living room was awful.
"Haminaro Make dinner you Bitch!", he yelled at her and grabbed his belt this is where i stepped in. i grabbed his hand and twisted it.
"You asshole!", i looked him in the eyes and saw pure evil.
"What do you know!", he punched me and i crashed into the table and dishes flew everywhere the sound of shattering glass kept me from passing out, i stood up and spit out the blood in my mouth.
"I know you Abuse your Daughter and Don't think of the coniquinses YOU FILTHY DRUNK!", "YOU DONT HAVE TO HURT HER!", "INSTEAD OF BEING THERE FOR YOUR DAUGHTER WHEN YOUR WIFE DIED YOU CAUSED HER A PAIN WORSE THEN DEATH!", "You got to hide from the law, hurt the victim and abide the consequences!", "Not anymore!"
"And why not kid?", he let off a smirk
"Because I'm DETECTIVE NAGITO FUWUKARI!", "And your out of luck!"
After it was all said and done Himinaro went to live with her grandparents. I was questioned and I showed them my badge and Hiro showed them the video evidence.
"Damn dude why?"
"Why what?"
"Why risk your life for someone you dont know?"
"Guess I can't stand injustice…"
When I got home I went into my room and picked up an old photo of me with my two best friends Himinaro and Hiro. I smiled and thought to myself, "Idiot, we know her, she was pulled away by her father and you forgot about her but I never did." I laughed the kind of way you do when you regret something you could have done in the past. I fell asleep thinking about my mistakes. I went to school the next day and I was sad I would never see my Best friend again. I sat down ready to get the day when I heard a voice from behind.
"Mind if i join your Detective club", i looked behind me and saw Himinaro she was there and i was the happiest I've been in years. I broke down crying.
"I would be honored if you joined us", I said, tears streaming down my face.
