"Raelian?"
"Huh!! Mireya, why are you out of breath, did you run?"
"Of course, Spencer couldn't find you anywhere and I got worried. I told him you should be here, but then he said that he had checked this place too so I hurried as fast as I could. Sigh!... He lied to me. When we return I will give him a piece of my mind!"
"A-are you crying?"
"Of course not, Raelian don't do this, promise me here that you wouldn't leave without telling us next time."
"All right I promise! Now don't cry and let's go home, Spencer must be waiting for us."
"Sniff...I'm not!"
"Yes, yes!"
'It will take some time for her to recover from this. Spencer didn't do well to take advantage of her weakness of me by stimulating her with fear.'
But, I do like that she cares so much about me.
Five years have passed since that horrible event that almost took my life. In that closed room, the fire caused by Nasya's servants was getting even stronger.
I didn't know what to do, except wait for the end and curse anyone who had made my life miserable by reviving me here, in a hopeless life that I couldn't find a way of salvation no matter how hard I tried.
Whatever I did the ending would be the same, so what value was it to fight. Even though I had tried several times to convince myself and think that everything would be better if I just tried harder to ignore the things going on around me, but that was stronger.
At the last moment when I was starting to see life pass before my eyes, both the past in my real life and the present. I saw both and I remembered people I thought of as friends and people who had left me with a deep wound in my faith in humanity.
At the last moment when I was waiting for the end, I saw a light of hope. Spencer had come to help me get out of that situation.
I couldn't believe it but it was true, in front of my eyes was him. I didn't ask, why and how he entered the room, but then I saw the bars that were broken and I thought of nothing but running as fast as I could from there.
Everywhere, I could see only fire and smoke and people running around scared. Everything looked like we were on the battlefield.
After leaving the Corttes mansion we left far to the west. In those moments I didn't think much about the reason Spencer helped me, but I followed him.
One of the reasons was because I didn't know where to go and couldn't easily orient myself in the light after all that time locked up in the dark. And the other reason was that he gave up the role he had in that house helping me, and for that I was grateful.
I still don't know how should reply to this great kindness he did for me, so at least I could make our escape easier by staying silent all the way. And when I spoke to him later, my heart dropped hearing what was the reason for the escape.
We traveled day and night, incessantly fearing that someone would have followed us. We left so far from the mansion that we had reached the border of the kingdom, in a deserted place, a wasteland that made me tremble as soon as I saw it.
I couldn't forget that place, my legs and arms were shaking so much that I couldn't stand on my feet, I couldn't calm down for a while until Spencer's voice and we continued on our way.
It was the place where the battle between the kingdoms would take place. Where prince Alastair would gain the right to become king and where later would be the place where Duke Akriste would commit suicide.
More than a place where the most important events in the lives of the two of them would be held, strangely that place looked familiar as if I had been there before. After that day, the nightmares that stopped when I met Nasya, started again.
We continued the journey within the borders of our kingdom, to the east, and finally found this house. Now we are in the countryside, in a quiet place near the borders of Nirvana and after leaving the city to stay further in an uninhabited house on top of a hill, Spencer talked to me about things that had happened during the time I was trapped in that room.
He started telling me about what he had discovered from the day he talked to me in the hallway until the last moments. According to him, the Marquis had hidden a large amount of money. He looked through the documents in his studio, and the money figures didn't correspond to each other.
The amount which was set to show the family capital and its gains was totally different from the report sent to the finance department. And the hidden amount couldn't be found even after they investigated. No one knows where he has hidden his money and the reason why he hides it, but Spencer came up with an idea after much research.
Among them were notes and information about stones that contain magical power. At first, he thought the money would be used for Nasya in birthday presents. But it was weird, why should she need a magic stone.
Then he thought about the bracelet I had on my wrist. The old man told me that the ruby in the center was a magic stone, with a force that could stop me from using my abilities. But this wasn't true, it didn't stop my powers, it activated and sucked them from my body every time I used them.
Lying to everyone by hiding a lot of money, a stone with magical powers to keep me under control, everything was going in place.
He was waiting only for something, a "person" to protect and also to attack his enemies. And also the royal palace would have no way to defend itself against the attack.
I don't know how strong I can be, but for the marquis to make a plan to strengthen his power against everyone, it only means that I can be more powerful than I think ... or maybe he is just crazy.
When Spencer decided to do something against the Marquis's plans, he made his life a living hell. At first, he talked politely about his preferences, and then he went as far as to threaten him with Roan's life. So he did nothing, and let it be.
Things went downhill from that day on, Spencer was completely under the marquis's foot and he embarrassed him about his love life.
He was suffering, but in a way he still had Roan. Or so he thought! One day he was called to the marquis's studio and he told him the news of Roan's death.
With a broken heart and the pride that had hit rock bottom after the humiliation in that house, he found help to get the things needed to get me out, only Annie and Amira helped him, and they also left that night.
The years passed and we stayed safe here, at first it was difficult but in a way, we adapted here.
In summer, Spencer takes different seeds from the inhabitants of the town below the hill and we plant them in the garden by the house. After harvesting fruits, vegetables, and flowers in the meadow, we keep half of them for ourselves and the others Spencer sells in the market, while in winter we sell wood at half the market price.
I can say that we have not had any problems with the money. Spencer knows how to manage them well and tries to minimize the loss. He also stole a considerable amount of money from the marquis before fleeing.
We continued the same even after the arrival of Mireya in the fourth year we had here. At first, I couldn't believe that I found the previous heroine of this story. But the description of the place and the time was correct. According to history, she lived alone in a forest between the two kingdoms after escaping from Nirvana, where prince Jonathan would find her and take her with him.
As if by chance we were in the same place where the heroine and the hero met. The only difference was that our house is three kilometers away from the forest where Mireya was and our meeting was in the strangest way and on the worst day possible.
It was a winter day. A strong wind and the snow that had covered all the roads. At that time Spencer was getting ready to go to the market with a cart filled with wood as usual.
"Hey, I'm ready to go. Tell me if you need something, I will buy it for you on the way back."
"I don't need anything! But what are you going to do about the snow? You are not strong enough to pull a whole cart of wood in this weather."
On a normal day, we would be fighting with each other and trying to find out who is right. I can say that we had a good time even in those moments, but I realized that he wasn't his usual self that day and he tried not to fight and didn't take the cart with him. He went down to the city only to buy necessary things.
Maybe he needed to go and have some fun there, it would be better than staying at home locked in his room.
At first, when he started to go to town and leave me behind, I would wait until dawn at the window to see a sign of his return, and then I went to him as if I had just woken up and started preparing breakfast.
One time he came back earlier than usual and found me awake waiting for him, and from that day on he made me promise him that I would never stay awake that late.
But this time it was different, I couldn't sleep even if I wanted to. I always wondered what could happen to Spencer if he was drunken by grief. It was the day of his beloved's death after all and I knew he would go to find salvation in drinking until he was wasted.
