"You're cooking," he said as he got closer.
Turning to look at him, she smiled and said," Yes. How is father?" she asked since he had come to check up on him. "He is good," he replied to which she nodded. "I'm glad. Thank you so much for everything."
She said and went back to the cooking. "Always. But uh, where's your daughter? I thought she had to be here," he said and she paused her actions.
"She's with her father," she spoke. "Oh. Who's the father?" he asked. Looking away, she felt guilty for lying to him considering the way he has helped them so much.
Turning to look at him, she said," Feng Shufen, the truth is, she is not my daughter."
"What do you mean by that?" he asked. "She is my boss's daughter, Mr Jing Yue and I'm only her nanny," she informed. Feng Shufen felt as though a heavy weight had been lifted off his shoulders.
"Really?" he asked, his voice laced with relief. "Yes. I'm sorry for lying to you but I had to," she said. "I'm glad but why did you want to push me away?" he asked. "Because we have to forget about the past. I didn't want you to make you think that we could get back together," she said. "Why's that? You're pushing me away again," he said.
"It's not that. A lot of time has passed and a lot of things have changed Feng Shufen. Feelings change too," she said. "I understand if you have doubts because of the much time that has passed but I'm sure that we shall make it work. I promise to make up for the lost time." "No. The thing is, I like someone else." "Who?" he asked frowning. "I can't tell that, but I do. It's the honest truth," she said. He took a deep breath and asked, "Are you together with the person?" "No it's kind of complicated," she replied. He wondered the person that would have stolen her heart. After much silence, he said," In that case then, I am not giving up." "You should give up on me. The effort is not worth it because I don't feel the same- " "Tang Ning," came Tang Moyu's voice and they turned to look at her.
"I didn't mean to interrupt I thought it was only you here. I can leave if you are busy," she said. "No. Feng Shufen was only informing me about father's health and he was leaving. Will you please escort him outside?" she asked.
"Sure," she replied and Feng Shufen glanced at Tang Ning then said," I will come back tomorrow." He left and Tang Moyu escorted him outside as Tang Ning went on with the cooking.
At night before she could sleep, she looked at her phone and her thoughts wandered off to Jing Yue. She hadn't heard from him from the past three days and she wondered how he was doing. She wondered if it was stupid of her to reject Feng Shufen because of him.
As she was still looking at the phone, it lit up and she looked to see him calling.
She picked up almost immediately, "Hello?"
"How are you doing?" he asked and she realized that his voice was deeper than usual. "I'm alright," she replied before asking," Do you have a flu?" "Yes," he replied. "Uh, let me hope you took some medicine," she said. "Yes I did. How is your father doing?" he asked. "He is fine now. Thanks for asking," she replied.
"So are you coming back tomorrow?" "Yes." "Alright. I will send the driver in the evening to pick you," he said. "There's no need for that Mr Jing Yue. I will take a cab." "He will arrive at four in the evening," he said, ignoring her words. "Alright. Thank you."
The next day hence, Tang Ning woke up early and she prepared for when she will be going. When the care taker arrived, she explained to her how she was going to take care of her father and how to give him his medicine. As she was still talking to her, Tang Moyu came," We are going together. Ain't we?" "Uh, I'm not so sure about that Moyu. I haven't told my boss yet," she said. "I'm sure he won't mind it. Let me get ready," she said before walking away and Tang Ning remained behind, speechless.
When it clocked three, Feng Shufen came with a lot of shopping bags as he did every single day he came at their house. "I was hoping to drop you. That's why I came," he said. "I'm sorry. My boss is sending someone to pick me up," she said and he frowned. "It's just that, I am taking the kids to the mall, that's why," she explained further such that he doesn't misunderstand.
"Alright. But shall we be meeting when you're free?" he asked. "I don't know. My schedule is fixed most of the time and I usually get no free time." "I will be checking on you then," he said. "My boss doesn't want visitors Feng Shufen. It will bring me trouble," she said. "Then how will I be seeing you?" he asked. "I don't know," she said and before he could talk back, they heard a knock on the door.
The caretaker came from the kitchen and Tang Ning said," Don't mind it. I will take it."
Opening the door, she noticed the chauffeur she knew and she smiled at him," I will be coming." "Take your time miss," he said and he walked back to the car.
She closed the door and walked back inside the house. "They have come for me," she said walking towards her backpack. "Alright," he replied getting up. "Thank you so much for everything Feng Shufen," she said and he nodded. She tiptoed to her father's room in fear of alerting her sister that she was leaving.
Coming back, the two got out of the house and Feng Shufen said," Please take care of yourself." "Thank you. You too," she said and she spotted the car parking at a distance. "Tang Ning!" she heard Tang Moyu's voice calling for her and she groaned. "You are leaving?" she asked walking to where they were. "Yes but, uh, the twins are with me. I am taking them to the mall and it might take some time," she said and Moyu frowned. She said it purposely because she knew how she wasn't fond of kids.
