Chapter 1 - PROLOGUE

A little girl's eyes fluttered open as her mother shook her awake. She felt a lot of heat around her body. She looked around and saw blue flames raging around but not reaching her little bed. She looked into her mother's eyes as a silver pouch was put on her shoulder. The amber eyes she looked into glistened with tears, with a blue hue from the flames, tears that flowed down her cheeks continuously.

"Get up my little serpent. We have to go."

"Go where mama?"

"The earth witches! They are here and they want to take my little girl away from me."

She was going to ask questions but her mother beat her to it. "Don't ask questions. Just run and don't stop until you reach the waterfall at the end of the forest." She said as she lifted the girl from the bed and stood her on the ground, shaking her head at the flimsy pyjamas. Carmencita aurora, The girl was soon dressed in a violet dress, silver leggings, a black jacket, black boots and hair in a ponytail. A cobra shaped pendant appeared around her neck.

"This pendant will protect and don't you ever take it off, you hear me."

"Yes mother"

"It keeps your existence a secret, making your aura completely human-like." The little girl nodded, her silver-haired ponytail bouncing softly, "Don't ask for anything from anyone and stay away from anything with a mystic aura. If you need help, ask the forest. The serpents will protect and take care of you. And once you reach the waterfall, your guardian will be there."

"I will but what about you." The little girl shifted on her feet from nervousness.

"I'll be alright my serpent. I'll stay and fight them."

"I can't just leave you here. What if I- I lose you."

"I'll always be with you, in one way or another. I need you to promise you'll survive and live life to the fullest. You have many fruitful years ahead of you."

"I promise you, mother."

"That's my serpent. The pouch has everything you need to help you master your powers and fulfil your dest-"

A loud crash resounded from downstairs, followed by voices that seemed to overpower the raging fire, followed by an uneasy sway of the foundation.

"I love you my serpent."

"I love you too mother."

"Be brave my darling and remember, a royal doesn't need a crown to rule the world." She flung herself at her mother and enveloped her in a teddy bear hug, causing a weak chuckle to leave her mother's lips. "Be safe my dear." With a kiss at the side of her head, she murmured a spell. Slowly the little girl's surroundings changed, she stood in the midst of trees that were taller than her. "Mama"
